MRD News: Maintenance Shop
Currently Being Renovated

In anticipation of opening of the new Community Rec. Center in the next few months, followed by the conversion of the Aquatic Center into an indoor Turf Field House, the Montrose Rec. District is currently renovating the maintenance shop at Ute and McNeil.  As part of the preparation for the new facilities, MRD recognizes the need to well maintain and improve current facilities.

This focus has been applied for the past several years, an overall goal of the MRD Board of Directors.  MRD, in partnership with the City of Montrose, earned a Great Outdoors Colorado grant in 2013, funds that come from the Colorado Lottery.  The project was two fold.  The City built the Water Sports Park, which has been a resounding success and wonderful addition to Riverbottom Park.  The MRD renovated Ute and McNeil.  This involved extending the river trail, improving the ball fields and adding fitness stations and a playground.  The Holly Park renovation is slated for design in 2017, followed by construction in 2018.

In line with the goal of improving and maintaining that which we already have, MRD's maintenance team is in the midst of renovation the Maintenance Shop at Ute and McNeil.  This facility supports all MRD services and facilities including housing all equipment used in preparing the fields for programming.  It is being improved using 2016 Capital Improvement Budget.  The work is being done mostly in-house by the full time maintenance staff members led by Maintenance Specialist Miguel Lopez, working with Maintenance Leaders Mike Shelton and Anthony Archuleta.  See below for a drawing Miguel completed showing show of the improvements.
