Quick Updates
  • The Summer 19' Guide is Here and Registration Began Monday April 1st at 6am!
The guide is stocked full of awesome things to do with the MRD, from programs indoor and outdoor, to the Field House and Outdoor Pool and the Community Rec. Center! It covers MRD services for April through July. The current Activity Guide is always available at www.montroserec.com
  • The Connect Trail Project Construction is Underway!  The trail is currently under construction behind the new Mayfly building.  Check it out when you drive by Mayfly off of Grand Avenue by the Justice Center.  The local general contractor Western Gravel is making great progress on the trail construction.  The project will add 2.25 miles of 10' concrete trail with a 2' soft surface shoulder and two underpasses under our two busiest roads, Highways 550 and 90.  The Uncompahgre River Trail will then connect the Justice Center and Colorado Outdoors on the north to the CRC and the Ute Indian Museum on the south.  The project is a partnership between the City of Montrose, the MRD, Mayfly, the Montrose Urban Renewal Authority, Montrose County, Gates Family Foundation, the Colorado Health Foundation, Black Hills Energy, the Montrose Recreation Foundation, the Montrose Community Foundation and the Valley Food Partnership.  This incredibly strong local collaboration earned the support of Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), a beneficiary of the Colorado Lottery, with a $2M grant.  The project will be complete and open to the public by the end of the year.  Click here
to see the aerial tour of the alignment!
  • Expanded Parking at the CRC for those needing closer parking.
In response to patron feedback, MRD will be added in 6 new parking spots next to the existing handicap parking that are designated for those needing closer parking.  This will help the situation of all handicap parking being taken on a consistent basis, particularly in the mornings.  These spots are reserved for those needing closer parking so please help the safety of those needing closer parking.
  • The Renovation of Holly Park is Fully Funded and Will Break Ground this Fall!  We'll break ground this fall of 2019 and the project is scheduled for completion in mid 2020!  The City of Montrose and the Montrose Recreation District have teamed up again to enable this exciting project. Thanks to generous contributions by many local organizations: Montrose Rec. Foundation, Montrose Community Foundation, Valley Food Partnership, Montrose Rotary Club, River Valley Health, Green Mile, Montrose County School District, MRF Horsefly Tap Night on 5.29.18 and the Mize Family.   These local partnerships earned grants from Great Outdoors Colorado and the Department of Local Affairs, which has now fully funded this project!   View plans to rebuild this oldest MRD park by clicking here.  Thanks to all the grants and fundraising, the enhanced plan will be built.
  • Thanks for being a patron and supporter! Happy Summer!

Western Gravel Constructors has started to pour concrete at the northern end of the new Connect Initiative Recreation Trail.  Concrete pours will continue to progress south towards the West Main trailhead where work has also started on excavation of the underpass crossing at the West Main Bridge.  As always, please visit MoveMo.co for more information on this and other capital projects going on throughout the City.
