'Play It Forward'
The Montrose Recreation District mission is 'To provide, manage and maintain quality recreational facilities,
programs and services, which will enhance the learning, leisure and recreation opportunities that promote a healthy community.'   This does not come without hardships for many of the residents of our fine community, so we are having a 2020 campaign to 'Play it Forward'.  This is how it works: In the front lobby of the CRC there is a tree decorated with ornaments that represent MRD programs and passes. Your purchase of an ornament will help out a community member who needs a little bit of assistance to help them keep a healthy mind and body.  Please stop by and grab an ornament or two and share your good fortune!  Take the ornament to the front desk and the Customer Service Representatives will be happy to help you 'Play It Forward'  you may pay with cash, check or a credit/debt card.  The Program Coordinators will be gifting the purchased ornament to those in need in 2020.  Our campaign covers all age groups and will be running Oct 1 through Thanksgiving.

Welcome note from our new Executive Director- Mari Steinbach

Dear Community,

It is an honor and privilege to be joining the community as the new Executive Director of the Montrose Recreation District! I am so excited to meet you and to work side by side with you, and the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, partners, and all to continue to positively impact and grow the contributions this agency has toward making our community so wonderful.

I'll be formally starting work on October 21st and will be thrilled to represent the Board and staff in our many ventures. We hope that you can drop in for a quick 'hello' on Thursday, October 24th for the Meet & Greet from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the CRC Party Rooms. I am hopeful that you can join in on any of the future coffee connections I will host so that we can hear of your specific ideas and needs and share in our plans for how together, we keep moving forward to best serve our collective interests.

The Board has many items for me and our staff to work on, including: preparing next year's budget, increasing employee growth and development opportunities, increasing the quantity and quality of recreation programming, and sustaining and building stronger and new partnerships throughout the community. And then there is identifying new levels of service - some of which include aligning to national standards in parks and recreation services and building accountabilities, expanding facilities and play spaces, increasing marketing and communication efforts, and so much more! You can look forward to keeping tabs on us through a variety of methods such as intentional outreach and the development of specific strategies and work plans, which we will publish and will seek your engagement.

In the meantime, my dog Bandit - a two-year-old Havanese -
and I look forward to seeing you in the parks and on the trails and about town! Having previously spent nine years in Grand Junction as Recreation Superintendent, we are thrilled to be returning to the West Slope after my several years away as I served in agencies in Alaska, Arizona, Vermont, Minnesota, and South Carolina. We will accomplish great work, together, and I am eager to get started...we will see you soon!
