The federal spending bills we have been hearing about hold all kinds of promise for our communities, but it is nearly impossible to figure out and how to access that funding for projects in the North Country.

The NCA is pleased to host a webinar discussion with Jon Cardinal, Director of Economic Development for Senator Schumer, who will shed light on what is actually covered in those spending bills and how the North Country can benefit.

The NCA Speaker Series is a new initiative by the NCA to broaden our reach offering economic opportunities in the region. Please share this event with your networks.

2023 Education and Outreach Agenda

The NCA Education and Outreach Agenda is shared each year with state and federal elected officials. To view the Agenda click here.

The Board of Directors accepted the 2023 Education and Outreach Agenda brought forward by the Education and Outreach Committee.

This year, the NCA continues to support investments in rural broadband, tourism, workforce development, and affordable child care and housing. These continue to be deterring factors for growth in rural communities as we continue to see an out-migration of workers.

The NCA also supports the development of renewable energy generation capacity while not imposing excessive costs to the consumer. The cross border connection remains a focus of our efforts to continue to press for coordinated planning of U.S.-Canadian border crossings. Finally, the NCA says ‘No’ new prison closings in the North Country and strongly encourages the state to provide financial resources and redevelopment assistance to communities and economic development organizations seeking to repurpose closed facilities.

Manufacturing Update

Good news.

NCA Board member Dave Zembiec's latest column in NNY Business Magazine highlights some bright spots in the regional manufacturing ecosystem. There are plenty of strong companies based here or producing here that you may not be aware of. Many of these companies are expanding and hiring right now, and new companies are attracted by reasonable costs for land, power, and labor.

"In the meantime, we have heard from many that they are increasing production to meet demand despite the labor shortages," writes Dave.
