Economic Development is a Team Sport

Thank you event sponsors!

Despite the cross-town rivalry highlighted by the NCA Fall Forum venue at SLU's Appleton Arena on October 18, NCA members and guests agreed that, for North Country economic development, we are all on the same team.

Jeff Janiszewski, Senior VP, Strategic Business Development/ Global NY, Empire State Development shared some insights and harsh realities from his decades of experience representing NYS from various sides of virtually every issue. A reminder of North Country Alliance history was also provided by Patrick Kelly of the St. Lawrence County IDA. For around 40 years, the NCA has been developing collaboration between and among various regional resources.

Around 40 people attending the gathering which was sponsored by National Grid, Atlantic Testing Laboratories, and ANCA. The NCA hosts two in-person board meetings each year, the Fall Forum in October, and the Annual Meeting in June. All NCA members and the public are invited to learn more about the NCA and take part in important economic development discussions.

MFG Day Tours Engage HS Students

Students from Brasher Falls CS toured the Arconic facility in Massena for the 11th Annual Manufacturing Day.

On Thursday, October 19, around 750 students from 20 different schools toured 15 manufacturing facilities in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties for Manufacturing Day. They learned about the variety of products made right here in the North Country, and discovered an array of career possibilities available in industry.

This event has been developed as one way to mitigate the workforce gap that challenges many employers and is coordinated through a partnership spearheaded by Jefferson County Economic Development including CITEC Business Solution; BOCES; North Country STEM Learning Network; and Naturally Lewis.
