December 31, 2022

Greetings Ospreys,

We hope you are enjoying the tail end of Winter Break and are excited about returning for the New Year in our new Nest!

As a reminder, we have a Professional Development Day for staff on Monday, and will welcome students to our new campus at 22 Osprey Way on Tuesday, January 3. Incidentally, that address will be easy for us all to remember, since we've moved into the building in 2022. And Osprey Way is off of the pre-existing Talon Lane--how cool is that?

We were floored by all the support we received in moving from our Twin Buttes campus to the new Nest on December 16 and we got so much accomplished as a community in just one day. There's still a bit to do, however, to get ready for our Ospreys' return on Tuesday. Please sign up here for a 2-hour shift if you're available to help us move and unpack some final boxes on Monday.

We're excited to welcome all students and families to a community breakfast and NEST Meeting on Tuesday morning. Sign up here to contribute food if you can. Families are welcome to stay through the NEST Meeting, which should wrap up by 9:30am. We'll livestream the meeting on AHS Quill Media Instagram, for those who can't attend in person. Classes will be slightly shortened on Tuesday, due to the NEST Meeting in the morning:

8:25-8:50 Community Breakfast

8:50-9:30  NEST Meeting

9:35-10:15  1st period

10:20-11:00  2nd period

11:05-11:45  3rd period

11:45-12:30  Lunch

12:35-1:15  4th period

1:20-2:00  5th period

2:05-2:45  6th period

2:50-3:30  7th period

We'll have folks out in the parking lot Tuesday morning directing traffic as we all get used to the flow of our new drop-off area and we strongly encourage students who plan to drive to school complete the AHS Parking Registration Form  by Tuesday morning so we can start distributing parking stickers right away. Refer to the letter about parking and transportation for full details.

We are happy to be welcoming 7 new transfer students to the Nest for 2nd semester. Please be sure to say hello and introduce yourself if you see an unfamiliar face, Ospreys!

Save the Date: Junior Exhibition January 10

Join us at the new Nest the evening of Thursday, January 10, for a junior Exhibition of Learning, when students will share their Humanities 11 and Chemistry work from fall semester, showcasing their Social Movements in Context and Chemistry of Food projects.

Osprey Week

It's back! After a 2 year hiatus due to Covid, we are thrilled to bring Osprey Week back this semester the week before Spring Break, March 13-17. Regular classes will be placed on hold as the world becomes our classroom. This week-long educational adventure allows students and staff to learn together through enriching hands-on activities while strengthening connections and relationships. Students will hear about this year's Osprey Week options at a NEST Meeting on Tuesday, January 10 at 10am and we'll have a special schedule that day. Stay tuned for more information coming your way soon.

Fall 2023 Enrollment

We will post the Fall 2023 Intent to Enroll Form for on the enrollment page of the AHS website on Monday, January 2 and our enrollment lottery will be on March 6. We had a waitlist for 9th, 10th and 11th grades last spring, and anticipate increased enrollment demand for fall 2023. For full details on our enrollment policy, please see our Student and Family Handbook.

Current 9th through 11th grade students do not need to complete the Intent to Enroll Form, and are guaranteed a seat for the 23/24 school year as long as they remain enrolled through the end of this semester. We will send re-registration information to returning families in early March. Reach out to libby.cowles@animashighschool.com with any enrollment questions, and encourage those who are exploring Animas for the 23/24 school year to join us for one of our Campus Tours or Online Information Sessions, where they can learn about our unique program, get questions answered, meet current students, staff and families and discover whether AHS is the best fit for them.

Savor this last little stretch of 2022 and Winter Break, Ospreys. We can't wait to see you in the New Year in the new Nest!

PS--Know anyone who needs boxes? We've got a bunch for the taking, free of charge, right out front at 22 Osprey Way and we'd love to see them go to good use!
