June 2, 2022
Greetings Ospreys,

That's a wrap on the 21/22 school year, and the past week's worth of activities have proven to us, once again, how valuable our school community is and how much the work of our outstanding teachers and staff, quite simply, changes lives.

As one mom of two recent graduates wrote to us, "You all make a big difference, are meaningful, loving wind at their passionate Osprey wings throughout their transformative adolescent journey and we are forever grateful."

Congratulations to the AHS class of 2022! We are immensely proud of you--and just a little heartbroken to let you go. But as Mya Olivier said in her graduation speech, “Sadness is the soul’s way of saying, ‘this mattered.’” Your time with us mattered--not just for you, but for us, too. Thank you for leading the way in helping to reestablish our Culture of Excellence this spring after the disruptions and challenges we've faced since the onset of Covid. You are extraordinary Ospreys, ready to go out there and make the world a better place, and we are grateful for you.
Those who missed the very special graduation ceremony at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall can view it here. Big thanks to Osprey parent Janine Collins for the beautiful flowers from her business, Botanical Concepts that adorned the stage. You can also see some lovely celebratory photos of our graduates and families here, courtesy of Drew Semel and his Illuminarts team. (By the way, we're thrilled that Drew will be joining our faculty next year in the Art Department!)
Transitional Presentations of Learning are another end-of-year tradition at AHS that show us that what we do matters. This past week has been filled with meaningful reflective conversations where Ospreys have eloquently articulated what they've learned, how they've grown and where they hope to go next.

As one mother of a rising junior put it, "This was my first year attending an AHS TPOL and I was so impressed! I imagine it is an empowering experience for students to be included in observing their peers growth and progress, collaborating with teachers, knowing that their focus and input mattered. I also enjoyed seeing students being given the opportunity to reflect honestly on themselves and their experience; this felt like a rare gift at a time when so much of their attention is focused outward (i.e. the incessant loop of peering into others’ lives on social media). Additionally, it was super meaningful to witness the buzz of enthusiasm, pride and beautiful work at the All School Exhibition, and I imagine putting on an event like that requires uncountable extra hours from staff. Thank you. It matters. And finally, the sense I get whenever I am on campus at AHS is that the adults see and know and care about these youth. That is an impact that reaches far beyond what we can see and is some of the exact medicine teens need right now. I hope you all feel a deep sense of contribution and go forth into some high level relaxation and fun this summer."

We are excited to welcome Ospreys back to the Nest for the 22/23 school year and to continue to support their academic pursuits. As a reminder, we do not send out individual report cards, and final grades for the spring semester will be visible in Infinite Campus early next week. Login to your account, go to Documents and click on "Semester 2 Report Card" to view.

All returning and new incoming students should be sure to complete course requests for next year.

We will create 22/23 student schedules in June, and families will be able to view them in Infinite Campus once complete.
If you have questions or need support over the summer months, please reach out via email. We will not have regular hours when campus will be staffed, though there will certainly be times when we can meet by appointment. Sean will serve as our Head of School through the end of June and we'll welcome Rebecca Ruland aboard July 1. Please reach out to libby.cowles@animashighschool.com or mainoffice@animashighschool.com if you have a question and you're not sure who can help--we'll point you in the right direction!

We'll keep you posted on summer events and the 2021/22 yearbook arrival date through occasional News from the Nest updates over the next couple of months. Look for AHS news on the AHS Facebook page and Quill Media Instagram feed--and don't be shy about sharing photos and stories from your summer adventures with us. You know that if you send them to Libby, she'll be happy to share them with our school community!

We will welcome all our new 9th grade and transfer students to the Nest on Monday August 22 and all returning students back to the Nest on Tuesday August 23.
We hope all Ospreys have plenty of adventure, connection, relaxation and rejuvenation over the summer and, as always, thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
