Jenny and her Spanish 1 students with their ofrenda
Greetings Ospreys,

Many thanks to our sophomores, their families and Ande Lloyd for the engaging conversations about the math behind tessellations at this week's exhibition, and to Jenny McKenzie and her Spanish 1 students for the beautiful Diá de los Muertos ofrenda that graced the hallway of the Michael Ackerman Wing this week, celebrating the lives of those we've lost.

We have just four weeks of regular classes left before Presentations of Learning and it's important for students to be fully engaged and stay on top of deadlines as projects wrap up, attention turns to preparation for exhibitions and POLs and the semester draws to a close. Please be sure to check in at home and offer support during this time.

Our heartfelt thanks to the La Plata Electric Association for their incredibly generous donation of $4500 to support Dave Farkas' Engineering Mathematics course through their Round Up program! These funds will help Dave's students access the tools and materials they need to transform a van we've purchased into a sweet #vanlife camper, using the math in the most hands-on of ways. If you are an LPEA customer, we encourage you to sign up for the Round Up program here. It's an easy, inexpensive way to make a difference in our community by rounding up your monthly bill to the next dollar each month. Dave and our student engineers are jumping for joy, thanks to this donation!
trailer for the big mountain skiing film Novia, featuring AHS alum Lucy Hall, class of 2021
Next Week's Events
Sometimes Senior Projects just keep going after students graduate from Animas. Case in point--Lucy Hall's big mountain ski film Novia, which she stars in and helped produce as part of her study of women and girls' participation in freeride skiing. On Wednesday during Advisory, our school will gather together in the Commons to welcome Lucy back to the Nest, view the film and hear her story. You can catch the film at Zia Taqueria next Friday evening at its public screening, too. Lucy is one of several Ospreys who have skied for the Four Corners Freeride Team over the years, ripping turns on extreme terrain.

The AHS Board of Directors meets next Thursday evening at 5:30. All are welcome.
Be Local Coupon Book Holiday Fundraiser
Once again this year, we will sell the Be Local Coupon Book during the holiday season as a way to show support for local businesses while raising money for our school. The Be Local Coupon Book makes a great holiday gift for all the locals in your life. Please consider purchasing for yourself and others!

Each book includes coupons worth over $3500 of discounts and retails for just $25. Local First supports AHS by allowing us to keep $6 profit per book, even though the $25 price is the same whether you buy yours through us or elsewhere around town.

Purchase Coupon Books from the AHS Main Office by paying $25 in cash or check made out to "Animas High School" or order using this form and we will add a charge to your family's Infinite Campus account, which you can then pay for using a credit card via the IC parent portal. We expect Coupon Books to arrive at AHS before Thanksgiving Break, and if you pre-pay we will send your book(s) home with your student.
COVID Updates
This week, we had no new COVID cases. Contact etoile.hening@animashighschool.com with any positive COVID results, questions or guidance you might need.

Read all the details about our weekly, voluntary on-campus COVID testing here.To register your student sign up here. Our school code is C0075 and once registered, students can test weekly without re-registering. Parents must provide consent for students under 18. Students receive $25 for first test and $10 for each thereafter.

Enjoy the weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
