October 13, 2022

Greetings Ospreys,

Short week, long weekend--here we are at the midpoint of the first semester already! As a reminder, there is no school Friday or Monday as we head into Fall Break, with a a professional development day for staff on Monday.

Thanks to those who came our for TWIGS events the week, including Monday's coffee and Tuesday's TWIGS Talk. Check out the inventions junior parent William Holden shared at holdenart.com (look at that cool magnetic chess set!) and view junior parent Todd Macon's gorgeous photography at toddmacon.com. We love learning more about the hidden talents in Osprey families! The TWIGS Buds--the planning group for our family engagement events--meets next on Monday 10/24, 5:30pm and all are welcome. Contact [email protected] if you'd like to join in, have ideas for future events or want to present at a future TWIGS Talk. For more info, see the TWIGS website.

Upcoming Events

Talk about real world exhibition of learning! Talented Osprey student artists Col Hinds, Chloe Sturm and Ellise Lopez will each be showcasing their work at this weekend's Durango Open Studio Tour. Swing by the Smiley Building Friday, Saturday or Sunday--see full details about the Tour, including schedule and map here.

Our 2nd quarter XBlock classes start next Wednesday. Students have received the link to sign up for their top choices and we'll have rosters ready in Infinite Campus by Tuesday.

Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) take place Thursday from 4-6pm. SLCs are important check-ins, led by students and supported by teachers, and are required for all 9th, 10th and 11th grade families.

If your family is unable to meet on October 20, you must reach out to the appropriate teacher to reschedule.

We strongly encourage juniors and their families to attend the Junior Postsecondary Night Wednesday at 5:30pm at AHS learn about the junior year timeline, LINK Internships, the college search and application process and what to do now to prepare for senior year.

Looking ahead a bit further, please note that Durango 9R schools have a holiday on Monday October 24, and there will therefore be no Hub Bus service between DHS and AHS on that date

Volunteer and Employment Opportunities

We're looking for ways to partner with our community to provide more support for our students and staff and are currently accepting applications for one additional Academic Coach position as well as Substitute Teachers. Please spred the word and encourage candidates to submit a cover letter and resumé to [email protected]

In addition, we're looking to connect volunteers with students through ongoing one-on-one tutoring during the school day. Have a bit of extra time and a desire to support an Osprey? Looking for a direct way to help out? Email [email protected].

We hope you all enjoy a beautiful long weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
