Hello Ospreys,
As a small school, one of the things we value most is authentic, close teacher-student relationships. We get to know our students well, which lets us support them as individuals. Usually, weekly time in Advisory groups provides a structured way to check in, but due to our strict use of cohorting, Advisory groups are only connecting online about once a month rather than meeting weekly this fall. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, and so we've created something we're calling Flocks. You may have noticed "Flock Meetings" on the Fall 2020 Master Schedule. Since Advisors often teach students in different grades than their advisees, we are using Flock Leaders, grade-level teachers who are checking in with a small group of students, to help ensure that everyone is engaged and supported. This will look a bit different at each grade level, with greater supports built in for younger students. Parents should still feel free to reach out to Advisors, and Advisors will still stay with advisees for the four years they are at AHS.
Osprey Parent Orientation and Parent Coffee
We want to encourage Osprey families to join us for two virtual events next week. On Tuesday, Parent Orientation will begin at 5:30 with a brief welcome for all families and then split off into four different online sessions, one for each grade level, where core teachers will share information about projects and expectations.
Online Osprey Parent Orientation, Tuesday 9/22
Next Friday morning, families are invited to join us for an informal check in with Sean and Libby at our monthly Osprey Parent Coffee. Bring your input, ideas and questions!
Seeking Parent Volunteers
Getting involved with AHS as a parent volunteer is a great way to contribute to our school community while getting to know teachers, staff and students, and we welcome your participation! Wondering how you might lend a hand? Please complete the Parent Volunteer Interest Form to let us know how you want to help. We'll reach out to you with more information and expressing interest isn't a commitment.
We are looking for a handful of parents who can help out during lunch on Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30-12:30 for juniors and 12;30-1:30 for seniors. Given our schedule for on-campus days, our 11th and 12th grade core teachers (Jessica McCallum, Julian Springer, Steve Smith, Sara Price, Ashley Carruth and Kyle Edmondson) teach without a break for the full school day. While our students are responsible young adults, it's best practice for us to have some adult presence around during lunch. Please sign up here if you are interested in helping!

Meal Service Updates
Please refer to the letter sent last week for all the updates to our food service program.
Now is the time to apply for Free or Reduced Lunch! We are asking ALL families to complete the Meal Application Form by Wednesday 9/30.
Remember free breakfast and lunch are available to ALL students through the end of December, but AHS pays $3 for each catered lunch we provide. If your family is able to make a donation to AHS to cover the cost of catered lunches that your student receives, it will help our school better stretch our limited funding. Please consider making donations through the donate button on the AHS website.
Enjoy the weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
