May 14, 2021
Greetings Ospreys,

And then suddenly, here we are in the final stretch of the year! Next week, juniors return from LINK Internships, regular classes wrap up, seniors begin Senior Project TED Talks and younger students begin to shift focus to Transitional Presentations of Learning. Our tailgate-style graduation plans are coming together and teachers are brainstorming senior impersonations. It's a full, exciting time of the school year with lots to track--as laid out in the letter to families about schedules for the final 3 weeks.

At the same time, we have our eye on the longer-term, very exciting future of AHS, with this week's release of the beautiful design for our future home at Fort Lewis College from Anderson Mason Dale Architects! Our Denver-based team of architects were in Durango this week, meeting with staff and our board to present the design and do some fine tuning. Curious to see what's in store for Ospreys, come fall 2022? The AHS Community Meeting: Presentation of Schematic Design of our New Campus at FLC Monday May 17, 5:30pm via this Zoom link will include a virtual fly through that gives a strong sense of what our permanent home will feel like. All are welcome!
Senior Project TED Talks
Over their 4 years at AHS, students gain valuable public speaking and presentation skills through various exhibitions of learning. We often hear from community members that they are impressed by Animas students' ability to communicate their ideas clearly and persuasively. This skill-building culminates in Senior Project TED Talks, where seniors present and defend their research and reflect upon their acton project experience.

TED Talks this year run from May 20 through 27 and are open to the public, both virtually and in-person with advance reservation. View the class of 2021 Senior Project Research Questions and TED Talk Schedule here, which includes Google Meet links if you would like to watch any presentation in real time. Reach out to kyle.edmondson@animashighschool.com if you would like to attend in person, either at AHS or at the Animas City Theatre, where seniors will present to 9th graders next Thursday and Friday.
