After a spectacular sold out show in April, author Lynda Drews has graciously agreed to an encore presentation of her best-selling sensation, The Maid and the Socialite!

When two women from opposite ends of the social spectrum find themselves victims of celebrated surgeon and closet abuser, Dr. John R. Minahan, they both fight to tear down his pristine legacy and advocate for long-silenced victims.

We are so excited to be celebrating a full year with Ali Smurawa as our Education Specialist! Ali holds a Master of Arts in Public History, a Bachelors of Arts in Musicology/Ethnomusicology, and a PreK-12 teaching certification with an endorsement for Structured English Immersion from the Arizona Department of Education.

Her previous role was a Museum Educator at the Arizona Museum of Natural History and Mesa Grande Cultural Park in Mesa, AZ. Prior to her education assistant role, she was an elementary school teacher with Mesa Public Schools for five years and a contracted educator at the AzMNH for four years. She will be heading up Neville Summer Camp 2024, so be sure to sign up today if you haven't already!

Ali is passionate about developing accessible and engaging educational experiences within museums and their local communities. Outside of work she enjoys hiking, reading, playing violin, and spending time with her orange cat named Pierogi.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors this nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative's office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries.

Art Against The Odds: Wisconsin Prison Art features more than 60 artists who turned to creative production to mitigate the de-humanizing conditions of incarceration. The exhibition is divided into six thematic sections: solitary confinement, landscapes, portraits, letter writing, scarcity of materials, and time/seriality. 

Under development for two years by Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee, WI, the exhibition gives voice and visibility to individuals currently held in the state’s carceral system as well as illustrates the potential healing properties of an art practice. With few instructional art programs offered in the prison system, these individuals teach themselves through various means, often working with limited materials. The exhibition explores how art becomes a vehicle to develop self-esteem, self-awareness, regulate emotions, and explore multi-faceted aspects of identity. The exhibition underscores the humanity of incarcerated individuals and their potential beyond criminal records.

The Annual Showcase is a juried exhibition featuring the artwork of NWTC Artisan and Business Center (ABC) students, staff, faculty, and residents. Artists who have participated in or been supported by ABC programming are encouraged to apply and participate in the Annual Showcase. This year's jurors are:

LGBTQ+ history extends long before the iconic Stonewall Uprising and milestone historical moments continue to be made daily. Explore some of the courageous pioneers, influential moments, and hard-won victories for the LGBTQ+ community at the local, state, and national level.  

This exhibit has been made possible thanks to a collaboration with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Archives and Area Research Center.

For example, you could buy craft supplies for an Explorer Wednesday activity and volunteer to help our educator Ali during the event. The Neville has joined Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network in an effort to create a more inclusive space for all. Globally, 1 in 6 people live with a disability. Of those, 80% are invisible - or 1.3 billion people across the world are living with a non-visible disability.

The global Sunflower network aims to raise awareness of non-visible disabilities. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard or badge is a simple and discrete tool that allows someone with an invisible disability to indicate that they may need extra help, understanding, or just more time. We at the Neville are proud to help raise awareness and recognize these challenges, and now have the training to better address and accommodate folks who choose to share.
