80th Art Annual

Opening Saturday, October 18

The 80th Art Annual exhibit is an all-media, juried exhibition of current artworks produced by artists living in the counties of Northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

This juried art exhibition began in 1942 during the height of World War II. For over three-quarters of a century, many of this region’s most celebrated and talented artists have exhibited their work as part of this Green Bay tradition.

The Juror for the 80th Art Annual is Scott Espeseth of Beloit College. Scott Espeseth earned an MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he worked with storied print artists such as Frances Myers and Warrington Colescott. His work has since evolved to focus mainly on drawing, usually with commonplace media such as graphite pencils and ballpoint pen. His drawings have been described as “clairvoyant,” often depicting familiar spaces charged with a sense of dark presence, or other instances where planes of existence clash: the future sending messages to the past, memory intruding upon the present, or the subconscious bleeding into consciousness. He has exhibited nationally, including solo exhibitions at the James Watrous Gallery of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, and Alcove Gallery in New York, NY, and numerous national and international group shows. Scott has been on the faculty of Beloit College since 2002 teaching all levels of drawing and printmaking.

Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m. followed by an interesting and informative program at 6:00 p.m. in our theater. Click here to order tickets directly or call Katy at (920) 448-7874 with questions. We can't wait to gather with you all again!

Meet Your Neville Summer Interns!

Liliana "Lily" Frenken grew up in Orlando, Florida, and attends school at the University of Florida, where she is pursuing a major in History and minor in Disabilities in Society. “I wanted to intern at a museum near my grandparents that had positive vibes, and inclusive environment, and would help me to strengthen my skills in history, education, and communication.”

She would like to be a professor at a university somewhere down the line and currently enjoys thrifting, working out, binging shows, and spending time with family and friends. Something cool she has learned during her time at the Neville is the difference between a mammoth and a mastodon. She credits the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for changing her life when she was able to see work from her favorite artist, Winslow Homer.

During her time at the Neville Liliana wants experience in the educational field and to learn skills that she can bring with her forever. When asked why she believes museums matter in this digital age, Liliana reminds us that “(history) often repeats itself. The history of the world needs to be kept alive and it is through museums!” Looking ahead to future exhibit ideas, she suggests a History of Cheese in Wisconsin or deep dive into the first cheese factory to showcase our local industry pride.

Women Who Run With Scissors:

Materialized Again

Now open!

Women Who Run With Scissors is a group of 15 women artists based in northeastern Wisconsin. They invite all to share their visions and dreams created with fabric, fiber and stitching. Each artist expresses her creativity with original art portraying real or imagined images, drawing the viewer in for a closer look.

Reed Every Day: Daily Drawings of

a New Human

Now open!

Reed Every Day is a project consisting of daily drawings of Miles Buss' son, Reed. The project began when he was born on June 28th, 2023 and has continued to this day. The drawings are a way of keeping Miles in the moment with his family. Making a drawing takes time, it isn't instantaneous like a photo, and it requires careful observation of the details one might otherwise miss. The drawings were all made from direct observation, without photographic references, so they serve as artifacts of time spent loving his son and watching him grow.

More about Artist Miles Buss can be found here.

Mao Lor: A Journey through

Hmoob Paj Ntaub

Now open!

Mao Lor is a Green Bay artist and maker who has been creating Hmoob paj ntaub (Hmong textiles) that convey the vitality of Hmoob art, history, and culture for over forty years. The exhibition features three dozen of Lor’s intricately hand-sewn and embroidered artworks, which include pieces using traditional methods and patterns and those that reflect contemporary innovations used for storytelling.

The exhibition is organized by the Paine Art Center and Gardens in partnership with the Hmong Studies program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
