| | At the NYS Library, we’re proud to support libraries and library users across the state with our services and collections. Perhaps the most rewarding part of this work is visiting New York’s libraries. In my travels across the state this year, I stopped in at a number of libraries, including Kingston Library, Hudson Free Library, Mountain Top Library, Depauville Free Library, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, and Vassar Library, where I was delighted by local history collections, inspired by community partnerships, and amazed by the creativity and resourcefulness of the brilliant people who help New York’s libraries thrive. I also visited system headquarters, such as North Country Library System, and led conversations with hundreds of representatives from the Four County Library System and Southern Adirondack Library System. In each location, I was rewarded with a first-hand understanding of how library workers strive to meet the specific, unique, and evolving needs of their communities. I truly hope you’ll invite me to visit your library, too.
Libraries also came to visit us! We hosted library groups from Suffolk Cooperative Library System, Monroe County Library System, and OWWL Library System. If your group is interested in making the trip to Albany, we have so much at the NYS Library we’d love to share with you. If there aren’t any travel plans in your immediate future, we hope you’ll enjoy this issue of our newsletter, which highlights libraries and library adventures of all kinds.
Finally, we know we aren’t the only ones with exciting and impactful library stories to tell. If you have a library story—from your own life, or perhaps the long history of your library or community—please consider adding it to the Personal History Initiative. You can find more information about this exciting initiative below.
