Ohio funds treatment strategies to alleviate strain on criminal justice
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recently announced $3 million in grant awards for local communities to reduce the number of criminal offenders with untreated mental illness or substance use disorders. The goal is to connect offenders with treatment, prevent them from cycling back into the criminal justice system, and reduce jail overcrowding. A total of 23 projects that benefit 38 counties will be funded in 2016.
