Secretary Padilla Launches Cannabizfile Online Cannabis Business Portal, Releases New PSA Featuring Cheech Marin

a new online portal containing useful information about cannabis-related business filings with the Secretary of State’s office. Entrepreneurs seeking to start a cannabis-related business in California will need to register their business entity with the Secretary of State.
“The first stop when starting any business in California, including a commercial cannabis business in 2018, is the Secretary of State’s office,” said Secretary of State Alex Padilla. “Our new cannabizfile portal makes the process for starting a cannabis business easier to navigate for entrepreneurs. The new site also includes information about registering a business, trademark, or service mark. Our new ‘Starting a Cannabis Business’ brochure can provide a starting point for new entrepreneurs seeking to quickly get their business up and running.”

Big improvements are coming to elections in Madera, Napa, San Mateo, Sacramento and Nevada counties in 2018 as part of the California Voter's Choice Act. To help prepare voters in those counties for the modernization of their elections, Secretary of S
tate Alex Padilla announced a new website:
voterschoice.sos.ca.gov
.
The new website has useful information about the new law, a calendar of important events leading to its implementation, and a tool kit for stakeholders and voters interested in learning more.
Beginning in 2018, all registered voters in these counties will automatically be sent a ballot 28 days prior to Election Day. Voters will be able to return their ballot by mail, take it to a drop-off location, or cast it in-person at any vote center in the county.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla spoke with UC students about the importance of civic engagement as well as key election reforms coming to California in 2018. The Secretary's seminar titled "Transforming the Way Californians Register and Vote," focused on the implementation of the New Motor Voter Act, which will register to vote all eligible Californians who are applying for, or renewing, a state driver's license or identification card. He also discussed the improvements included in the
Voter's Choice Act coming to the counties of Madera, Napa, Nevada, San Mateo and Sacramento in 2018.

Secretary Padilla Commemorated Veterans Day with
"Honor Vets. Vote." PSA

The
Honor Veterans. Vote. program provides California citizens with the opportunity to pay tribute and dedicate their vote to a veteran or active duty service member.
By submitting your dedication, you can choose to receive a certificate or lapel pin to proudly display appreciation for your honored veteran or active duty service member. There is also an option to have an email notification sent to the veteran or service member you are honoring, notifying them of your tribute.
"Our Democracy is possible thanks to the service and sacrifice of our veterans, as well as active duty members of the military," Secretary of State Padilla said. "I invite you to participate in our
Honor Veterans. Vote. program, by dedicating a past, or your future vote, in honor of a family member, a friend, or other loved one who is a veteran, or is actively serving today."

Secretary of State Alex Padilla delivered opening remarks at the 11th Annual Induction Ceremony for the
California Hall of Fame. This year,
Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. and First Lady Anne Gust Brown inducted a class that included Lucille Ball, Susan Desmond-Hellmann, Mabel McKay, Mario J. Molina, Jim Plunkett, Gary Snyder, Steven Spielberg, Michael Tillson Thomas and Warren Winiarski.
"Each year I am in awe of the individuals who are inducted into the California Hall of Fame," said Secretary Padilla. "I am in awe of their stories, in awe of their accomplishments and in awe of their lives which are truly, truly extraordinary. We celebrate these inductees and their stories that have not only helped shape our history, but will undoubtedly inspire our future."
