SoCalGas’ Energy Efficiency Programs

Save Customers More Than $95 Million in 2024

Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) announced on July 30, 2025 that its energy efficiency programs helped customers save more than $95 million on their utility bills last year. Customers saved more than 50 million net therms of energy, enough to meet the annual natural gas needs of nearly 125,000 California homes. These efforts also helped avoid more than 260,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, or the equivalent of removing over 56,000 cars from the road for a year.

“Our energy efficiency programs help give Californians practical ways to lower their energy use and reduce costs,” said Andy Carrasco, vice president, communications and regional stakeholder engagement at SoCalGas. “Every therm saved represents a family that can heat their home more affordably, a small business that can run more efficiently or a school that can now spend more on students and less on energy costs.”

L.A. Metro Offers NFL Fans

Free Rides to SoFi

Metro has updated the route of the SoFi Stadium Shuttle for this NFL season. Rams and Chargers fans have a new way to get to SoFi Stadium this season — the free SoFi Stadium Shuttle will be running from the newly-opened LAX/Metro Transit Center Station served by the C Line, K Line and local buses.

Point-of-emphasis: the old SoFi Stadium Shuttle route between Hawthorne/Lennox Station and the stadium will no longer be served. If you’re riding to the game on the C Line, ride to the LAX/Metro Transit Center — which is just a few minutes from Hawthorne/Lennox Station.

The SoFi Stadium shuttle will continue throughout the NFL season for all pre-season, regular season and playoff games starting with the Rams vs. Cowboys game on Saturday, August 9, and the Chargers vs. Saints on Sunday, August 10.

It should be a great NFL season with high expectations for the Rams and Chargers. The Rams host the Lions on Dec. 14 in a contest that could be an NFC championship game preview. The Source anticipates the Bolts will welcome Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals next Jan. 25 in a matchup for the AFC trophy. Hope to see you all at SoFi this football season!

Think Earth –

Lessen Your Environmental Impact at Home and Work

The Sanitation Districts are a founder of the Think Earth Environmental Education Foundation, which provides free, award-winning classroom curriculum for grades pre-K through 8. Think Earth distributes grade specific kits containing five to eight engaging lessons, colorful posters, and a video. The program is correlated to California Content Standards.

By completing the program, students learn the importance of a clean, healthy environment and what they can do to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and minimize pollution. Students learn to "Think Earth!" For more information, please visit the Think Earth website.

Think Earth now offers environmental surveys for homes and schools to learn how to lessen your environmental impact. These surveys can be conducted at home by family members, and at schools as a class project from grade 6 and up. Once survey answers are entered online, personalized recommendations are generated to show you how to better "Think Earth." The free, broad-based surveys cover air quality, energy and water conservation, and waste reduction.

West Basin:

Out with the .org, in with the .gov

In an enhanced effort toward increased online security and public trust, West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) has transitioned its website domain to WestBasinCA.gov. This new address aligns with federal recommendations and California law to increase public trust, improve security and clearly identify the District as an official government entity.

As a trusted regional water provider, West Basin joins a growing number of public agencies making the move to the highly secure .gov domain. This transition also ensures West Basin complies with California State Assembly Bill No. 1637, which requires local governments to adopt a .gov domain by January 1, 2029, and reflects West Basin’s ongoing commitment to transparency, cybersecurity and service to the public.

To maximize user-friendly navigation, the previous website domain WestBasin.org will be automatically redirected to the new address WestBasinCA.gov. While existing links for the District’s website pages will continue to function as usual, the public is encouraged to update saved web links and begin to navigate to the new address when looking for information on the West Basin website.

West Basin’s staff email addresses have also migrated to the .gov domain to match the updated website. The adoption of the new domain name in e-mail communications will make it easier for people to verify legitimate messages from West Basin officials.

Check it out WestBasinCA.gov.
