Sustainability and Clean Energy Pathways Explored Green Leaders Summit

As part of Los Angeles County’s Workforce Training and Education programs, the Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN), in partnership with the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), hosted the inaugural 2023 Future Green Leaders Summit on March 15, 2023. The event took place at the LA Convention Center.

The Summit hosted 1,800 LAUSD middle school students from historically underserved communities to expose them to and educate them about green career pathways in sustainability and clean energy.

The event featured exhibition booths, speakers, workshops, hands-on activities, and discussion sessions related to energy sector careers.

SoCalREN has found that students already have limiting beliefs about their career once they enter high school due to existing career exposure, limited mentorship in the STEM field, and the lack of available curriculum for teachers.

Because energy efficiency is one of the fastest growing career fields in California, it is vital that students get the chance to explore the opportunities presented by sustainability and clean energy career pathways.

SoCalREN, a partner of South Bay Cities of Governments, is proud to be part of the solution. Learn about SoCalREN and its no-cost services for students, families, small businesses, public agencies and more here.
