PUBLIC TOURS OPEN AT BIXBY MARSHLAND

Did you know that in addition to operating wastewater and solid waste facilities, the Sanitation Districts own and maintain a marshland?

The Bixby Marshland, a 17-acre marsh, is located to the northwest of the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant near the intersection of Figueroa Street and Sepulveda Boulevard in the city of Carson. The marsh was restored by the Sanitation Districts and reopened to the public in 2009.

Now that the marsh has been rejuvenated, a large variety of plants, birds, fish, and animals call the Bixby Marshland home.

The marshland will be open on October 7, 2023 from 8 a.m.-noon.

TORRANCE OFFERS SEVEN TIPS TO

REDUCE YOUR WATER BILL

The city of Torrance continues to encourage residents to conserve and preserve our precious water supply.

The governor recently called upon all Californians to reduce water use by 15% to mitigate drought impacts. While it's unknown how long the drought will last, Torrance Public Works reminds residents that every drop saved today can be used tomorrow. Although there has been major progress in reducing water use, they emphasize that we all need to do more.

Torrance offers seven tips for reducing water consumption and saving on your water bill:

  1. Eliminate over-watering and excessive runoff from landscapes
  2. Limit outdoor watering duration time
  3. Don't water between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  4. Don't wash down hard or paved surfaces
  5. Don't water outdoors for a minimum of 48 hours after a measurable rain event
  6. Don't water outdoors more than three days per week
  7. Fix all leaks promptly

SMART POWER STRIPS OFFER SIMPLE WAYS TO SAVE

People love their devices. From televisions and computers to video game consoles, smartphones, and tablets, our homes are packed with electronics that help us work, learn, play and relax. A recent study estimated that in the United States, the average person has nearly eight networked devices.

But all these products require energy—and many continue to draw power even when they are switched off or in sleep mode. This is known as a vampire load and can account for as much as 10% of your monthly energy bill, or $200 in yearly energy costs.

That’s where smart power strips come in. Read full article here.
