Dear parents and guardians,
Today, April 8, 2020, the City School District of New Rochelle
will not be serving food.
One of our kitchen workers has tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with the Westchester County Department of Health, we will dispose of all the remaining food that has been prepared in the kitchen. The CSDNR will perform a thorough cleaning and will acquire new food. The kitchen staff will be rotated so that no one who has worked in the kitchen during the last week will be there.
We wish our employee a complete and speedy recovery.
Food distribution is scheduled to resume as normal tomorrow, Thursday. We will continue to take the same precautions and follow the extensive sanitary practices that we have exercised throughout this worldwide crisis.
Food anxiety is a pervasive issue in our community, and we understand the disruption this causes for many of our neighbors. We know that
Free School Meals Matter.
During these difficult times, the CSDNR has been committed to ensuring access to nutritious and balanced meals for those who depend on us for them. We are extremely troubled about not being able to provide food for the day.
We know that each day food is not served is a day when some will go hungry. Should you be in crisis, please call WestCOP at (914) 636-3050 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The District will work closely with the organization to ensure that all calls are responded to and that no one is left hungry today.
Please know that food will be distributed by our community partners at two main locations, 95 Lincoln WestCOP and 345 Main Street, New Rochelle. Although they may not be equipped to handle the surge that will likely result from the district’s closing of the kitchen today, they may be able to accommodate some who are in need.
