Texas Ranger Bicentennial Tribute Colt® Single Action Army® Revolver

The Colt® Single Action Army® - An American Legend
While Texas Ranger Capt. Jack "Coffee" Hays and his men lacked neither courage nor conviction during their patrols in the Old West, they struggled to reload single-shot pistols and rifles during combat. The arrival of Samuel Colt’s .36 caliber, five shot revolver changed everything. In the hands of Hays’ men, the new sidearm gave them an awesome advantage. It was the Rangers’ praise in the reliability of these revolvers that revived Samuel Colt’s dreams of being a gunmaker and inventor. He would continue inventing, redesigning, and refining his firearms.
The Colt® SAA revolver was introduced by Colt in the 1870s and played an important role in America’s Western frontier days of the late 19th century. Known affectionately as the “Peacemaker” among other names, Single Actions were the handgun of choice for many legendary Texas Rangers starting in the 1870s and continuing into the 20th century.
|
|
Each Colt SAA revolver is fitted with classic walnut grips with a gold decorated Rampant Colt medallion. Both sides of the barrel feature 24-karat gold decorated banners. The left side reads, “Texas Ranger Bicentennial Tribute.” The right side of the barrel includes the famous Stephen F. Austin quote, “Ten Men To Act As Rangers For The Common Defense.”
The centerpiece of this Colt® Single Action Army® revolver is the handsomely decorated cylinder featuring portraits of four legendary Old West Texas Rangers. Maj. John B. Jones was the first commander of the Frontier Battalion and the man who transformed the Rangers from a volunteer group of Indian fighters into an efficient crimefighting force. Sgt. John B. Armstrong apprehended the outlaw John Wesley Hardin in one of the most famous showdowns in Ranger history. Capt. Samuel H. Walker partnered with Samuel Colt to create the famous Colt Walker in 1847. The legendary Capt. John Coffee “Jack” Hays served in several armed conflicts from 1836-1848, and whose battle with the Rangers against the Comanche was featured on Samuel Colt’s legendary Walker Revolver.

The legend of the Texas Rangers remains one of the most lasting and powerful in our nation’s history. This handsomely decorated Tribute honors the legend of the Rangers with the classic Colt® Single Action Army® revolver, a firearm that played such an important role in history of the Rangers.
