Message from the Township Committee   Many of us looked forward to the celebrations that we missed last year but for some, holiday plans are being adjusted once again because of COVID-19. And, some of our neighbors will not even be in their homes because of Storm Ida. It has been a trying year but also one that reminded us about the generosity and kindness of Cranford residents and businesses.   We urge everyone to take precautions like wearing masks indoors or at gatherings of large crowds, get tested, and seriously consider getting vaccinated to protect yourself, family and friends from getting seriously ill.    We hope you get to enjoy this wonderful holiday season with family and friends. Township Committee Meeting Updates

Township Meeting 12.14.21 Township Commissioners recognized outgoing Commissioner Thomas Hannen’s nine years with a plaque noting the dates he served as Mayor and Commissioner. Prior to moving to Cranford, Comm. Hannen served 12 years on the Winfield Park Town Council and while in Cranford has been a volunteer firefighter, an advocate for flood control, and active in sports programs. Each Commissioner spoke, as well as some members of the public. Nelson Dittmar was honored for his many years on the Environmental Commission and the important projects he spearheaded like Sustainable Jersey designation for Cranford, preparation of the Township’s Natural Resource Inventory, established a tree ordinance for development projects and a No Net Loss of Trees policy, Rake for the Planet Day to bring awareness to the effects of gas-powered leaf blowers and instituted to Cranford Green Business Program. Mr. Dittmar is stepping down as chair but will remain on the Environmental Commission. Announced the dedication ceremony to rename the Centennial Indoor Pool for Anne Salway Dolan, a long-time employee and facilities manager who passed away two years ago. The ceremony is being aired on TV 35. Authorized the advancement of Eugene Perrotta to Lieutenant and Shayne Temple to Sergeant in the Cranford Police Department. Authorized the appointments of Gianna Ricerca, Anthony Giannico and Liam Duffy as Probationary Patrol Officers in the Cranford Police Department. Adopted a Redevelopment Plan for 750 Walnut Avenue (Hartz site). Authorized the Township Clerk to advertise for bids for construction services for the Flood Mitigation Program (home elevations).

COVID-19 Vaccine and Testing Information

As people look to stay safe this holiday season, we wanted to pass along information regarding Covid boosters and testing. Bell's Pharmacy, located at 17 North Union Avenue, is currently offering the Covid vaccine and boosters. They ask that people register ahead on the NJ Vaccine Scheduling System (https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/en-US/). If you call Bell's between 9-9:30AM, they'll make an effort to provide a same day appointment. The pharmacy can be reached by calling (908) 276-0062. Baron Drugs at 34 Eastman Street offers PCR Testing, Rapid Testing, and Home kits. Customers can do walk-in testing. Please give Baron Drugs a call at (908) 276-6100 to check their availability of tests. Union County has expanded testing and vaccine program. For more information visit www.ucnj.org.

Final Leaf Pickup

The Final Leaf Pickup began on December 20th . Please note that branches and other yard waste are not permitted in the piles. Final pickup will continue until the end of the year, 12/31/21.

Municipal Buildings and Facilities

Township offices and facilities will be closed Friday, Dec. 24 and reopen Monday, December 27. Offices will also be closed January 3rd in observance of New Year's.    Please remember that masks are required inside all Municipal buildings.
