More Cranford Businesses Set to Open on Monday

The weather might be iffy on Monday, but we’re pretty excited that many of our businesses downtown, on Centennial Avenue, and Raritan Road will be back open for shoppers and diners. After nearly three months, retail stores can welcome customers back inside and restaurants and cafes can offer outside dining.
We ask you to support these businesses by following the safety measures like social distancing and wearing a mask. Check with individual businesses for hours of operation. For a list of downtown businesses please visit the Downtown Cranford website .

Shopping in Stores
  • Stores can open with 50% of normal occupancy level
  • Provide special shopping hours for customers considered in the vulnerable population such as the elderly or immune compromised
  • Regular sanitizing of common areas and high touch areas, like credit card machines
  • Install barriers or partitions where customers pay and mark floor to keep customers six feet apart

Here’s What You Need to Know About Outdoor Dining
  • Patrons are prohibited from indoor sections except to walk through entering or exiting or use the restroom.
  • Customers to wear face coverings only when inside the building (unless there is a medical reason for not doing so or if the patron is under 2 years).
  • Employees to wear face coverings and gloves when in contact with customers, handing food, utensils, and other items.
  • Prohibit smoking in areas where people are drinking and eating.
  • Recommend customers wait in their cars or away from the establishment while waiting for a table if outdoor wait areas do not allow for proper social
  • Encourage reservations to help control customer volume and require customers provide a phone number if making a reservation in case of the need for contact tracing.
Get Ready for Streatery on Alden Street!

The Township Committee authorized closing a portion of Alden Street from N. Union Avenue to midway up the block so that restaurants can set up tables to accommodate and serve more customers until they can once again offer inside dining at full occupancy. During the mornings when the area isn’t used by restaurants, other businesses are permitted to use the space for classes and activities. The street will be closed from 3 pm on Thursdays to 9 pm Sundays. The Township Committee continues to work with business owners about additional opportunities to attract customers and create a lively environment.

A Letter from the Director of Recreation & Parks About the Cranford Pool Season

We know there are questions and some disappointment that Cranford will only open one pool this season. Many towns have decided not to open pools at all this year, but Cranford officials want to give residents a much-needed recreational outlet this summer. This decision was not easy but we believe it was the responsible one. The health and safety of our residents is our priority but as elected officials we also have an obligation to act in a fiscally responsible manner.
We only received the go ahead from the State on Monday with guidelines sent on Tuesday and Wednesday. We ask for your patience as we continue to review the regulations and requirements. Please take a few minutes to read this letter from Director Steve Robertazzi that explains our decision and some of the changes you can expect. Our goal is to keep you safe while you enjoy Cranford’s pool this summer.

New Publication Schedule

More than three months ago, we created this daily official newsletter to keep Cranford residents and businesses information about the COVID-19 pandemic and how it was affecting our community, businesses and municipal services. Starting this week, we will switch to a Monday, Wednesday and Friday publishing schedule but will send a news alert if there is an important announcement.

We intend to continue publishing this newsletter so that you have access to accurate and timely information about the Township.
We Are Here to Answer Your Questions.

We know you have questions during these uncertain times and while we may not always have the answers immediately, we will do our best to get the information you need. The Township Commissioners work closely every day with State and County representatives, our public safety, emergency management and professional staff on best practices for providing municipal services efficiently and safely, developing innovative and effective ways to restart businesses and recreation activities. This work and planning have been ongoing since the onset of the COVID-19 emergency. We are planning so that Cranford is prepared to meet the current and future challenges.

Thank you for your tremendous cooperation, patience and support.
