Township Committee Passes a Resolution Condemning Hateful & Racist Rhetoric

At its public meeting, the Cranford Township Committee, in the strongest of terms, acknowledged that hate-filled speech that targets people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual identity contributes to discrimination. The Committee passed a resolution that also cited the role that social media plays in furthering divisions in communities.

Resolution 2020-227 condemned and disavowed the use of the name “Cranford” by individuals and on sites, including the Facebook group Cranford Uncensored, that targets and harasses individuals. Thank you to Commissioner Jean-Albert Maisonnueve for working on this and the countless residents who spoke up against intolerance and prejudice. It has no place in Cranford.
Cranford Community Pool

On Monday, the Township learned that municipalities would be allowed to open pools on June 22 and on Tuesday afternoon, we received the first set of guidelines from the NJ Dept. of Health and the CDC with additional guidelines coming today. The Township Parks and Recreation Dept. had been doing basic maintenance and preparing based on possible scenarios, including occupancy levels. The Township Committee voted to open only one pool at the larger Orange Avenue location. Many towns have decided not to open pools this year, but Cranford officials want to give residents a much-needed recreational outlet this summer.

We ask for your patience as we continue to review the regulations. Parks and Recreation Director Steve Robertazzi will send the updated information to current and past pool members and the information will also be posted on the Township website.
Our goal is to keep you safe while you enjoy this community amenity.
