Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Host Intercultural Competence Trainings
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston hosted a Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers overview training (May 8) and a BICM Leadership Training Workshop (May 9) led by our Secretariat's executive director, Mrs. Mar Muñoz-Visoso.
More than 125 people participated between both days. Auxiliary Bishop Italo Dell' Oro addressed attendees to both workshops and highlighted the importance of equipping parish and diocesan staffs to be able to understand and operate within the growing diversity that characterizes the local church. Muñoz-Visoso said, "It is imperative that we acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will allow us to communicate, work, and relate across cultural boundaries if we are to carry on the church's mission of evangelization.
At the same time, we ought to be able to acknowledge and work to remove the obstacles to integration and inclusion of the different communities and traditions, working together to build unity in our diversity: one Lord, one faith, one baptism; but many members, different gifts and expressions."
