Village of Brown Deer Looking for Summer Seasonal Help

As we enter into the 50s this week, let’s tease ourselves more by thinking about summer. The Village of Brown Deer is searching for five seasonals that would assist our Parks and Recreation Department as well as our Public Works operations. These positions perform indoor and outdoor maintenance of our parks, streets, grounds, and public areas while also assisting with landscaping efforts. Qualified applicants must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, hardworking, reliable, and enjoy working outdoors. The position works weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with no evening or weekend hours. Pay is $15 per hour. If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, stop by Village Hall at 4800 W. Green Brook Dr. to pick up an application or contact Erika Petras at 414-371-3020 or epetras@browndeerwi.org for more information. We’d recommend getting your application in as soon as you can as the Village hopes to fill these spots soon.

Distracted Driver Prevention

Distracted driving poses a serious threat on our roads. According to Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), one in five crashes involve distracted driving. A distracted driving crash happens somewhere in Wisconsin every 22 minutes.

The use of devices such as mobile phones while driving significantly increases the risk of crashes. Texting, calling or browsing divert attention from the road, leading to delayed reaction times and impaired driving skills. Additionally, engaging in activities like eating, adjusting the radio, or attending to passengers can also contribute to distraction, compromising road safety.

The Wisconsin DOT provides the following tips to avoid distracted driving:

  • Commit to driving safely and distraction-free.
  • Turn off your phone or download an app to prevent incoming and outgoing messages, calls and notifications while driving; some apps even send an auto-response back to let people know you are on the road.
  • Enlist the help of your passengers to avoid distraction.
  • Speak up as a passenger if you witness distracted driving.
  • Pull over safely if you need to address any distraction while driving.
  • Plan ahead: eat, groom, primp, and organize before OR after your drive.

Prioritizing safe driving and avoiding distractions will ensure the wellbeing of yourself and others on the road and will help us achieve zero preventable deaths on Wisconsin roads.
