FAQ: Is it true the Village considered offering $5 million in property tax relief?

No. The Village collects approximately $6.5 million in property taxes. Reducing property tax revenue by $5 million would reduce public safety funds by 77%.

Nearly 93% of property tax revenue is dedicated to public safety. Property tax revenue is not distributed toward infrastructure.

FAQ: How will the referendum impact CIS rates?

The Capital Improvement Surcharge (CIS) on your water bill exists to provide funding for water system and wastewater treatment and collection system improvements. If Roselle remains non-home rule, CIS revenue will remain the Board’s only means of funding water and wastewater improvements. CIS rates would more than double, reaching $20 per 1,000 gallons by 2032, to meet revenue demands of mandated wastewater projects.

If Roselle becomes home rule, both CIS fees and home rule sales tax revenue would go towards mandated wastewater improvements. As more sales tax revenue is earned, less revenue is needed from CIS fees, keeping rates lower for residents. View this blog post to compare CIS rates over time or view this post to learn more about how sales tax revenue keeps CIS rates lower.
