2019 Municipal Election-
On May 7, 2019, Village President Glenn Ryback and Village Trustees Ken Harvey, Bob Hayden and Millie Corder were sworn into office; they will be serving the Village for the next four years. The Village thanks former Trustee Jim Zegar for his eight years of service on the Village Board; his term concluded at the May 7 meeting.
Village Trustees Geralyn Hansen, Ben Dolan and Doug Jacobs will continue to serve on the Village Board for the next two years.

2019 Wadsworth Farmer's Market-
Starting July 10, 2019, Wadsworth Community Park will again be the site of our annual Farmer's Market. A number of fruit, vegetable and personal service vendors have already signed up to participate. To add more excitement to these weekly events, different engaging themes are currently being planned.

2019 Newport Fire Senior Luncheon-
Attention Seniors (age 60 and older), please save the date for Thursday, June 13. The annual Newport Township Fire Protection District Senior Luncheon will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Caroline Avenue Fire Station. Door prizes and helpful information packets from participating vendors providing home repair and personal services of interest to seniors will be distributed. Please RSVP by June 3. Newport Twp. Historical Society Rummage Sales-
Rent space at the Newport Township Historical Society's 2019 Rummage Sales for only $10 per 10 x 10 foot area. Sell your own items and keep the remaining proceeds!
The Historical Society, in conjunction with the Village of Wadsworth, is sponsoring two rummage sales. Participation in these sales is open to everyone. The aforementioned $10 fee will go to support the Historical Society. This year, the sales will be held in Wadsworth Community Park, adjacent to Wadsworth Village Hall, located at 14155 West Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth.
There are two dates for the sales: Saturday, June 8; and Saturday, September 7. Sign up for either one or for both! Each sale will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Vendors can begin setting up their areas at 7 a.m. Vendors must bring their own tables, set up their own items, do their own clean up, and bring home everything that is not sold.
Contact Kevin or Margie at 262-694-0596 to reserve your space. We must get a minimum of 10 participants, with a maximum of 30. Payments will be collected on the day of the sales. In case of rain, the sales will not be held.

GO Wadsworth: A Walking Initiative-
This summer, in conjunction with the Village's Farmer's Market, the Village of Wadsworth will encourage residents to get more active and healthier by participating in community walking events around the newly renovated park adjacent to the Village Hall. The benefits of walking are well known, all in efforts to improve one's overall health.
So, starting this July 10, at 5:00 p.m., and for several Wednesdays thereafter, consider exercising around the park's paths with your friends and neighbors, and then refresh and treat yourselves with locally produced fruits and vegetables and other provisions from our numerous Farmer's Market vendors.
There is no charge to participate in the weekly walks, and we are looking for ideas to make these walking events more attractive and fun. Please share any creative ideas that you may have.
We are open to your ideas to help make these exercise events fun for all.

Now in its sixth year, the Icebox Derby is an educational initiative that is designed to empower young women to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) fields, and also to help them discover their own paths to innovation.

Sheriff's Office Latino Citizens Police Academy-
Sheriff John Idleburg is pleased to announce the first-ever Lake County Sheriff's Office Latino Citizens Police Academy, which will begin on June 5, 2019, and run for six weeks. Classes will be held at the Sheriff's Office Sub-Station in Libertyville.
The Latino Citizens Police Academy is open to all Lake County residents age 18 or older, of good moral character, and with no felony convictions. This course will be instructed by Spanish-speaking members of the Lake County Sheriff's Office. It is a free course and applicants will receive an in-depth review of all of the Sheriff's Office responsibilities, including Corrections, Highway Patrol, Court Security, Criminal Investigations, Crash Investigations, Evidence Processing, and more.

Bike Path Wayfinding and Signage Study-
The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is currently conducting a countywide
Bike Path Wayfinding and Signage study. The purpose of this study is to develop a wayfinding strategy and to establish guidelines and sign templates to enhance the bikeways in Lake County. Ultimately, the goal is to help the public using the bike paths to have a better understanding of where they are on the trails and to make it easier for riders to find connecting destinations.

Springtime Reminders-
Lawn Mowing: The height of grass upon an improved lot (that is, one with a home, etc.) cannot exceed 8" in height. On a vacant lot, grass height cannot exceed 18"; such lots must also be cut a minimum of four (4) times per year.
Rubbish/Trash/Junk: It is impermissible to keep rubbish/trash/junk or other abandoned materials upon lots in public view. Such items must be stored in a building or properly disposed of off-site.
Vehicles: Unlicensed or inoperable vehicles must not be kept or stored in public view (that is, in a front yard, side yard or rear yard). Such vehicles need to be stored in a building or removed off-site. No vehicle with a license plate greater than a "D" plate may be stored in public view upon a lot.
Recreational Vehicles/Boats: Recreational vehicles/boats that are less than 30' in length may be stored upon an improved lot in the Village. Vehicles/boats larger than 30' in length must be stored within a building or relocated off-site.
Animals: No more than four (4) dogs over the age of four (4) months may be kept at one's home. Furthermore, no dogs or other animals, including farm animals, may run at large within the Village (that is, off of the owner's property, unless such animal is leashed). Dogs also must be vaccinated against rabies and be registered with Lake County. (Click HERE for more details about this requirement.) Farm animals are not permitted upon a lot that is less than 200,000 square feet in size. However, only hens (but not roosters) are now permitted upon a lot less than 200,000 square feet in size. (See Section 10-5-7-G of the Village Code for more details regarding the keeping of hens upon an improved residential lot.) The keeping of honey bees (apiary) is only permitted on a property that is zoned AG - Agriculture. Horses may be kept on an improved residential lot that is at least 80,000 square feet in size. A property will need 80,000 square feet of lot size for the first horse and 40,000 square feet of lot size for each additional horse.
Home-Based Businesses: Please refer to Section 10-5-10 of the Village Code regarding information concerning customary home occupations.
The above rules generally address the more common issues for which the Village receives complaints. Should you not be able to privately work out an issue with your neighbor(s), please refer any code issues to the Village at info@villageofwadsworth.org or by calling 847-336-7771. The disputed matter will then be referred to our Code Enforcement Officers (that is, the Village of Beach Park) for additional investigation and follow-up.

Movie in the Park-
On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, starting around 8:30 p.m., please join other Village of Wadsworth residents for our free annual Movie in the Park. The film will be screened in Wadsworth Community Park just west of the Village Hall parking lot.

Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets filled with "goodies". And don't forget bug spray! Note: Wadsworth Park will be sprayed for mosquitoes earlier that morning.

Mosquito Control-
The Village has contracted with Clarke to perform up to four (4) Village-wide misting applications (adulticiding) to reduce the adult mosquito population during the summer. The treatments will be coordinated with neighboring communities including the City of Zion, the Village of Beach Park, the Village of Gurnee and Warren Township.
The applications take place during early morning hours. Adulticiding occurs between dusk and dawn and attacks adult mosquitoes with a truck-mounted application of an ultra-low-volume spray. Residents who wish to be notified prior to any adulticiding treatments should contact the toll-free Mosquito Hotline at 1.800.942.2555 and ask to be placed on the Village of Wadsworth prior notification list. Residents will receive a call the day of the application.
However, you too, as a local homeowner, can take numerous, simple, positive, preventative measures to reduce the mosquito nuisance in and around your own home. You can assist the Village in controlling the mosquito population, and thus protect yourself, your children and your pets.
