We bring you a lot of information. I attended the Wadsworth Pageant this past Sunday as the village photographer and there's a link to all the photos.

Summarized information is provided about other local events, including our Fall Festival, a couple of rummage sales, and a reminder about our Farmers' Market which continues for several more weeks.

Wadsworth pageant winners-

 



On Sunday, September 9th, the 2018 Wadsworth Pageant was held in the Shanty's new banquet room, compliments of Dimitri Kallianis.  And what a pageant it was!

We fondly refer to the participants as our Queens, and that indeed is what they are.  During their terms, we watch them grow from young girls into young women, a product of the coaching and mentoring from Pageant Director Angelique Guthrie, the heart and soul of this wonderful program.

Last year's winners Alyssa Cairns, Madison Coletta, and Sheridan Del Re served our village with grace, charm, intelligence, and hard work.  For that, we will always be grateful.  Thank you, ladies!

This year's winners are in the photo above.  Miss Wadsworth, Autumn Scott; Junior Miss, Amanda Hamann; and Little Miss, Tess Reynolds. Congratulations, girls!  We at the village look forward to working with you during the coming year.  You have some big slippers to fill, but we know you all can do it!  A very warm welcome to you all...

Village rummage sale-

Do you want to clean out your garage, basement, or spare bedroom and have a lot of stuff to get rid of? If so, we have the venue for you.

Your village and the Newport Township Historical Society have teamed up to host a rummage sale on October 6 at our downtown vacant lot.  It will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to any Wadsworth or Newport Township resident.  You might want to be a seller; you might also want to stop by to see if you can get a good deal on something to purchase. Remember that one person's junk is another's treasure!

Farmers' Market-

Kristin Christenson is doing a fabulous job running our Market.  Hours are Wednesdays from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and it continues through September 26th.  To see a list of our local vendors, click HERE.
Walk For Suicide awareness event-
The Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force is hosting their 6th Annual Walk for Suicide Awareness event on October 6 at the Hastings Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Villa.  Please click the link to view their  Event Flyer  for more details about this event and for registration information.
Fat Cat Rescue flea market- 
 

On Saturday, September 15, our own Fat Cat Rescue will conduct a flea market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their new location on 15290 West Rt. 173 in Wadsworth (located just east of  Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve and west of Kilbourne Road).  Shop for all kinds of bargains on housewares, home and garden decor, pet supplies, craft items, small appliances, collectibles, and tons of other stuff.  


All proceeds go to support their not-for-profit mission to help homeless and stray cats and keep stray animals off our streets and properties.  Click HERE to visit their website.  Fat Cat Rescue provides an important community service.
The position of village clerk-

The position of village clerk in Wadsworth is an elected position, but in 22 out of Lake County's  52 municipalities, the clerk is appointed by the village president or mayor.  Formal consent of the appointment is required by the town's governing body.

The clerk is the recording officer of the village and is responsible for attending all meetings of the Board of Trustees and for keeping the minutes of those meetings.

Having an appointed clerk allows the clerk's duties to be performed by a staff member or another appointee, and can result in some cost savings as well as improved efficiency.   The village trustees are diligent about spending our precious tax dollars, managing productivity as best we can, and keeping up with the changing times in local government which is why we are considering this change.

The Wadsworth village trustees are legally empowered by state law to convert this position to an appointed one, but are interested in any comments you might have regarding this possible change.  To the extent you have any, contact Administrator Amidei at the village office or simply send an email to him at info@villageofwadsworth.org.

The term of the current village clerk remains in effect until its expiration on April 30, 2019 and a conversion to an appointed position does not affect the current clerk.  The term of an appointed clerk would commence May 1, 2019.
