Located just outside of the southeast corner of our Village, this new recreation area is one of five designated off-leash dog parks that are operated by the Lake County Forest Preserves.  In these designated locations, your dogs can run, jump, and play off-leash!  The main entrance for the Waukegan Savanna Dog Park is on York House Road, just east of Delany Road. 

The local 11-acre site is entirely fenced and features a large open area, a separate enclosed area for small dogs weighing less than 25 pounds, shade shelters with seating, drinking water for both dogs and people (separate sources, of course), toilets and a large parking lot.

Please note that an annual or daily permit, and a dog (of course), are required for entry to the park.  A permit allows you access to all five of Lake County's dog parks.  A daily permit can be purchased in advance online or at the dog park itself via your mobile phone by downloading the Passport Parking app or by visiting ppprk.com.

This park is open daily from 6:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. or sunset, whichever is later.

Finally, please be aware that the Waukegan Savanna Dog Park is closed until 11:00 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month, from April through October, for scheduled maintenance.

The 2019 Wadsworth Area Pageant took place on Sunday September 8 and we are excited to announce our new Queens for 2019-2020!

As explained more comprehensively in our last newsletter, the Village of Wadsworth is currently seeking the appointment of a Village Clerk to handle the requisite statutory duties.  Generally, the Clerk must attend all Village Board Meetings and all Zoning Board of Appeals/Plan Commission Meetings, and then provide the written minutes of all those meetings.  The Clerk must also sign and affix the Village's seal to those official documents that require the signature of the Village Clerk.

Note that the keeping of regular office hours at the Village Hall is not required, and that the Clerk need not be a resident of the Village.

Compensation is $525 per month, minus the applicable withholdings, and no benefits of any kind will be offered.

The Newport Township Historical Society will be hosting another Open House on October 5, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Please come for a special presentation on oil lamps.  All are welcome to visit their facility, located at 15155 Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth.

Public Act 101-0027, which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, regulates and authorizes the cultivation, sale, possession and consumption of cannabis in the State of Illinois.

Following a series of public hearings/meetings by the Village's Zoning Board of Appeals/Plan Commission and the Board of Trustees the past few months, the Village Board of Trustees, on September 17, decided to permit the various recreational cannabis uses within the Village's non-residential zoning districts as conditional uses, subject to the standards as designated in the Village's municipal code and the issuance of a conditional use permit, following the required public hearing(s) and meeting(s).  

Further, the Village also imposed a 3% tax on the sale of cannabis, as well as a licensing structure that allows the Village to limit the number of cannabis establishments/uses in town.  

Following the submittal of a conditional use permit application, as well as all required plans/outside approvals/etc., a public hearing will be scheduled to consider any future cannabis use proposal.  Meeting agendas of public hearings as well as Village Board meetings can be found on the pages of these hyperlinks.

This year, the Village of Wadsworth's designated trick or treating hours will be between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

As promised, this year's Fall Festival and Pig Roast, held on September 14 in Wadsworth Community Park, provided great food, beverages, music, hayrides and visits with our newly crowned

Voter registration permits a qualified voter to actively participate in the important electoral process and to exercise one of our most basic rights.  As a result of population growth in Lake County, the implementation of the National Voter Registration Act, and online voter registration, the number of registered voters in Lake County has increased to an all time high of over 450,000 voters!

At the recent Illinois Municipal League Conference, Senator Richard Durbin stated that, for each individual included in the federal decennial census, the state receives $1,800 per year back from the federal government, for 10 years!  With such significant revenue at stake, it is important for the Village of Wadsworth to ensure that the Census Bureau accurately and completely counts all of its residents.  Accordingly, when you receive your census questionnaire, please fill it out promptly and completely.  

Motor fuel, use and income taxes are distributed to the Village by the State on a per capita basis, so it is critical that Wadsworth receives an accurate count.

Furthermore, in order to be as comprehensive as possible and to identify any missed residents, the Village may be forming a local complete count committee to help the Illinois Complete Count Commission to increase its participation rate in the upcoming 2020 Census.  This committee will establish various methods to communicate the importance of a complete and accurate count, and will also publicize participation in the 2020 Census through various mediums.
