We will also read some of the Buddhist texts and examine similarities and differences between Buddhism and the Baha'i Faith (and other religions), including the emphasis both place on personal transformation. TBH

After revealing the Kitab-i-Aqdas in 1873-74, Baha'u'llah penned a series of tablets that include the Lawh-i-Aqdas, the Book of the Covenant, and the Tablet of Carmel. The tablets revealed after the Kitab-i-Aqdas elaborate on Baha'u'llah's laws, further explore the nature of the mystical life, describe basic theological teachings, and expound on the principles necessary for transforming human society. The bulk of these weighty epistles were published in 1978 in Tablets of Baha'u'llah Revealed after the Kitab-i-Aqdas. In this course we will read and study these tablets and discuss their relationship to other works by Baha'u'llah and `Abdu'l-Baha.

Exploring the Christian New Testament

Lead Faculty: Daniel Grolin
Faculty: Ted Brownstein

Duration of course: Three month (July 1 - September 30, 2012)

Page from the New Testament In this course on the Christian New Testament we will explore the life of Jesus; the canonization of the New Testament; stories and precepts in the canonical Gospels; the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles; the Apocalypse; and prophecies of Jesus and their fulfillment. We will examine major themes from the Gospels that form part of Christian belief: conceptions of God; Christian rites, the Eucharist, and baptism; the kingdom of God; faith in miracles; the Crucifixion; and the Resurrection. We will study Christianity for the purposes of deepening and dialogue--that is, for understanding the basics of Christianity as a divinely revealed religion (and, by comparison, the Baha'i Faith) and for learning how to share the perspective of one's own faith with a variety of Christians in an informed and respectful manner.

The Tabernacle of Unity

Lead Faculty: Susan Maneck
Faculty: Christopher Buck, Farhad Rassekh

Duration of course: Seven weeks (August 15 - October 3, 2012)

Tabernacle of Unity The five tablets in The Tabernacle of Unity proclaim some of the central tenets of Baha'u'llah's Faith and the universality of His prophetic claims. In the course we will undertake a careful reading of the five tablets, exploring the Baha'i concepts of progressive revelation and the role of religion in advancing human civilization; the relevance of the book to interfaith dialogue; and what the tablets teach us about the process of revelation. Baha'u'llah addressed two tablets to a Zoroastrian who admired Him and who asked questions about Zoroastrianism and Hinduism and three tablets to Baha'is of Zoroastrian background. . . .
