In This Issue
Dear Members,

Scam emails are the worst. If you are like me, you probably receive several of these a day. And here at WCA we are not immune to the shenanigans of scammers. Lately, some of the names of our members and board members were harvested from the WCA national website, our NH Chapter website and other WCA Chapter websites. Scammers are using our names and email addresses to solicit everything from gift cards to donations for sick children. Our website guru, Debra Claffey, uses security software to protect our email and website. But scammers are wily, and any name on the site is out there for anyone to borrow. Please be aware that WCA will not ask you for money or gift cards in emails. We fundraise on our website through our WCANH Paypal account which is secure. We also occasionally raise money on our official Facebook page. You can also donate to us using a good old fashioned check, sent to our treasurer (instructions are on our website). As scammers get more and more brazen please be super aware of who and how you donate money. Here is a good, short article that you may find helpful: "How to Identify an Email Scam in 10 Seconds or Less   https://www.netcetera.ca/identify-email-scam/
Stay safe and enjoy the Holidays!

Pods are smaller circles of WCA/NH members who live nearby and want to connect to work, play, see shows together, etc. You are encouraged to "Pod hop" to have more personal time with other groups! If you don't see a Pod in your area, invite a few friends over and start one, or advertise for artists in your area in ArtGenda!

Exhibits in the Works - Get Ready!

Details are on the way for KickStart! (aka The Shoe Show) - further discussion will be in place at this week's Exhibition's Committee meeting, Thursday, December 10 at 3:30 pm on Zoom for this exciting show involving actual shoes, or new shoes, or thoughts on ways that women have had to kick-start and re-boot our lives in the face of the corona pandemic as well as the many other challenges or changes that life throws our way. Very good stuff to come for this show planned for September of 2021 at Twiggs Gallery!

"Breath of the Forest" is slated for the entire month of June with the Rochester Museum of Fine Art in the Bernier Room at the Rochester Community Center. RMFA Director Matt Wyatt is happy to host the WCA of NH as the museum begins to slowly make its way back into the public eye. Look for a new prospectus soon; and if you have your works from the previously scheduled show, or would like to enter something new, think about it!  We have a continuing opportunity here with the RMFA as well as with North Adams Public Library, where we can place this show or any overflow as "A Breath of Fresh Air"!

Tricia Soule of the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts is very interested in the "Sunday Afternoon on the Shores of Massabesic Lake", a re-creation of "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. This would be a collaborative arts event for our WCA NH artists to paint, draw or photograph costumed models from local businesses or The Palace Theatres as they socially-distance relax along the shores of Massabesic Lake at the Railway Trail Parking area off of Route 28 Traffic Circle in Auburn. We'll be moving forward with this discussion in January; she sees more opportunity for WCA artists and Augmented Reality with this activity!

Thank you for your email after the Fall Annual Meeting in response to the possibility of The Survey!  It has been tweaked, and after I send it to our Board for review, it will be coming out to you for your response. It was very helpful to hear of all the different genres, mediums and special projects in which our artists are working - I've provided more areas for open response and we all look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Thanks again for all you do, for all you make, and have a healthy and peaceful holiday season!

WCA/NH COVID-19
Artist Emergency Grant Program

Some of our members have been hit especially hard financially by the virus.  If you are having trouble making ends meet and paying for essential living expenses due to a loss of income from the myriad of exhibit, craft show and teaching cancellations, we have set aside money to help. The WCA/NH Artist Emergency Grant will provide $200 grants to WCA/NH artist members in need. This is open to all WCA/NH artist members whose dues are current as of March13th, 2020 - the date Governor Sununu issued a state of emergency due to COVID-19. It is a rolling deadline and grants will be awarded as received until funds run out. The application is a simple half page form.  The form and more information can be found  HERE  on our website.

Golden Apple provides unique inspiration for photographers and plein air painters. Located in the most eastern point in North America, it provides an opportunity to be the first on the continent to witness the sun rise over the horizon. Evenings provide spectacular sunsets. The residency itself is situated on nearly fifty acres of spruce forest and overlooks the bay where lobster boats chug through the waters early each morning. Nearby scenic areas include Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Schoodic Point and Jasper Beach, as well as many off-the-beaten-path destinations waiting to be discovered.

These are from Rebecca Hastings. If you know of more, please send them to me to publish for our fellow artists.  Thanks, Paulette
