March 2026

The Women’s Fund of Door County builds, enriches, and nurtures the lives of women and girls through collective wisdom and philanthropy.

Dear Friends,

Happy Women’s History Month!

At the Women’s Fund of Door County, we believe that "history" isn't just something found in textbooks, it’s something we are actively supporting and building every single day. This March, as we celebrate the pioneers who broke glass ceilings, we are also looking squarely at the women and girls currently building the floors for the next generation.

This month, we celebrate the organizers, visionaries, and—most importantly—you, the donors and advocates who make this work possible.

Here are a few simple ways that you can celebrate Women’s History Month:

  • Letter to a Mentor
  • History is made by individuals who have made an impact. Write a physical note or thoughtful email to a woman who has influenced your life.
  • Shop Small Businesses
  • Commit to shopping at women-owned local businesses. It’s one of the most tangible ways to support the economic longevity of women entrepreneurs.
  • Pass the Mic
  • In meetings or on social media, intentionally create space for a woman’s idea to be heard. If you see a colleague’s contribution being overlooked, jump in and credit them.
  • Pay it Forward
  • Provide an introduction or a LinkedIn endorsement for a female colleague so that they have the support and encouragement needed to reach the next level.
  • Honor a "Living Legend"
  • Make a tribute gift to the Women’s Fund of Door County in honor or memory of a woman who changed your life. If possible, we will send her a note letting her know that her legacy is fueling the next generation of changemakers.

The Women’s’ Fund of Door County is honored to support women and girls not only during Women’s History Month but every day of the year!

Sincerely,

Women’s Fund of Door County

Tales of Our Lives: April 11

The 13th Annual Women’s Fund of Door County Tales of our Lives event will be held on Saturday, April 11 at Northern Sky’s Gould Theater.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of storytelling, connection, and inspiration.

We will again collaborate with Northern Sky Theater as five storytellers take the stage to share their stories. Each tale features a unique experience, relationship, or life lesson that has left a profound mark.

This year’s storytellers, who will be accompanied by the music of Cathy Grier, include:

Sally Everhardus

In a first for our event, Sally will show visuals during her story, reflecting on a lifetime of drawings, sculptures, and self-portraits to explore themes of self-doubt, illness, aging, and resilience, showing how art has helped her understand and reconstruct her identity over time.

Cherryl Fonfara

Cherryl, a lifelong Chicago vocalist who loses her singing voice after illness and an accident, grieves the loss of her identity as a performer, and ultimately finds a new direction by repurposing her voice and life in unexpected ways.

Cheri Miller

Cheri’s story centers around her summer college job at the Algoma Toilet Seat Factory and a “crappy” night she had there one sweltering August evening.

Tracey Robertson

Sharing her journey from childhood trauma and decades of silence to truth and healing, Tracey encourages others to face their own difficult truths and take the courageous steps needed for personal freedom and growth.

Betts Willams

Betts recounts a deeply personal journey of healing that begins after an injury and a serious car accident. What starts as a path of physical recovery gradually expands into the exploration of energy healing, ultimately leading the author toward a profound spiritual calling. This journey culminates in her becoming both a Reiki Master and a trained spiritual director.

Storytelling begins at 7 p.m. followed by a reception.

Tickets cost $35 each and can be purchased online directly from Northern Sky Theater’s Box Office.

We look forward to you joining us for a memorable evening!

Grant Highlight: Sturgeon Bay Schools Virtual Mental Health Services

With the help of a Women’s Fund of Door County Community Grant, Sturgeon Bay Schools offered virtual mental health counseling sessions for 29 students, including 19 girls, in grades 6-12.

Students met with a virtual mental health provider for 6-8 weeks to address a variety of needs.

Virtual mental health services did more than just bridge the gap for students facing insurance or logistical challenges, they unlocked new opportunities for the Sturgeon Bay Schools counseling team. By transitioning one-on-one support to a virtual format, staff were freed up to implement proactive classroom lessons and group sessions, benefiting the school culture as a whole.

"I look forward to my sessions with the psychologist because I knew it was the one time per week that I would be heard."
