Health Grant Update: Boys & Girls Club of Door County's "Strong Minds, Strong Futures" Program

Earlier this year, the Women's Fund of Door County announced the Boys & Girls Club of Door County as the recipient of a new $30,000 Health Grant. This grant supports its "Strong Minds, Strong Futures" program, a year-long initiative focused on building emotional wellness skills in young people and empowering teens to lead a mental health advocacy project in our community.

We are excited to share an update from the Boys & Girls Club on how the new program is going:

• Boys & Girls Club Director of Emotional Wellness, Ms. Sydney, has incorporated a social-emotional learning curriculum into her case management. As a result, Club members are building a shared emotional language.

• During Mental Health Awareness Month, Ms. Sydney taught Club members how to identify at least one trusted adult in their lives, how to help a friend who is struggling, and how to move through big, overwhelming feelings through creativity and self-expression.

• Throughout the summer, Boys & Girls Club teen members will engage with guest speakers, participate in learning excursions, and lead a culminating service project addressing mental health in their community.

New Aging in Place Grant Opportunity

The Women’s Fund of Door County is pleased to announce a one-time grant opportunity designed to support innovative programs that help older women in Door County live safely, independently, and fully in their homes.

This grant offers up to $30,000 for one year to a charitable organization serving Door County, with the potential for renewal for a second year, creating a total possible investment of up to $60,000 over two years. This funding is intended to help launch or grow meaningful programs that address the needs of women as they age in place.

The Women’s Fund of Door County is excited to offer this new grant opportunity to benefit an often overlooked population.

Spring Grant Recipients

We are proud to announce our 2026 Spring Grant Recipients!

Active Senior Options, Do Good Door County: Home for Life Door County: This grant will help fund home modifications by providing home safety education, in-home assessments, and financial assistance for critical accessibility modifications so older adults, especially older women, can safely age in place with dignity and confidence.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Bay & Lakes Region: STEAM for Girls of the Future 2026: The STEAM for Girls of the Future program will engage girls in circuitry and electronics projects that build confidence, problem-solving skills, and interest in STEM careers while introducing participants to women role models in engineering and technology.

Door County Medical Center Foundation: Door County Medical Center Birthing Center Program: Funding for the Birthing Center program will provide donor milk, breastfeeding support tools, bassinets, car seats, and other essential baby care items to help newborns and families get off to a safe and healthy start.

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes: Establishing Equity in the Door County Girl Scout Leadership Experience: This project will provide financial assistance and leadership programming for Door County girls and volunteers, ensuring more families can access the Girl Scout Leadership Experience regardless of income barriers.

HELP of Door County Inc.: Ensuring No Survivor is Left Behind:

Following the closure of Door County's Sexual Assault Resource Center, HELP is stepping up to fill this critical gap in services. This grant will support HELP's transition into a fully operational dual agency serving survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault, covering staff training, prevention education curriculum, and community outreach resources.

Open Door Pride: 10th Annual Pride Festival/Month Celebration:

Funding for the 10th Annual Pride Festival and Pride Month activities will support community-building events, educational exhibits, artistic programming, and outreach efforts that create a more welcoming and affirming community for all.

Washington Island Child Care (WICC): Increased Access to Quality Care and Education: This project will support staffing, professional development, and curriculum planning so the center can expand access to affordable childcare and early learning opportunities for island families and working parents.
