Dear Fellow Young Professionals,

We hope you are all doing well. Now that spring is finally bringing warmer weather to New England, we wanted to inform you about a few updates.

Being in an election year, the Young Professionals group at the German-American Business Council of Boston also held its vote recently. We want to thank Felix Kraus, Daniela Becker and Mareike Möhlmann for their valuable contributions in the previous leadership. The newly elected 2024 YP Steering Committee includes Kai Schmitz and Thorben Beckmann as Co-Chairs, Felix Kraus as Secretary, and Johannes Becker as a candidate for YP Representative to the GABC Board.

As we noted in the GABC YP Charter our objective is to connect and empower early-career professionals through social and business networking opportunities in the Greater Boston Area. We are open to professionals from all backgrounds and career stages. In order to foster German-American exchange, we have a few signature events and activities that we host over the year.

Most likely you have already heard from or even attended at one of our "Stammtisch" social gatherings. Once a month, we host a social meetup in a bar in the Cambridge/Boston area. The next Stammtisch is planned for May 8th at Lamplighter Lechmere Square in Cambridge, a new venue that we want to try out after having been many times to the Lamplighter Broadway taproom. Additionally, we launched our MetroWest Stammtisch at Jack's Abby brewery in Framingham that we host about once a quarter for those folks who live outside the city.

This year, we will relaunch our MayDay event series with a visit to the Boston Red Sox against the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park on May 1st. Tickets are limited, so please make sure to secure your spot soon! With the increasing performance lately of the German Nationalmannschaft, we are also excited to host a Eurocup soccer watchparty that will be announced in June. Later in the year, we plan to host another Boston Harbor Cruise as well as the Christmas Glühwein Party again, which have been fun networking events in 2023.

On the career development side we are preparing a Financial Literacy for Early Career Professionals event in fall. Stay tuned for more information on that to come online at our events page.

Our Mentoring program continues to be very popular and will be continued with a new cohort to start in October. Please reach out if you are interested in participating in the program as a mentor or mentee.

If you want to become a member of the GABC Young Professionals or stay up top date through the GABC newsletter please reach out to yp@gabc-boston.org or emily.westhoven@gabc-boston.org.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!

Sustainability Project Presentations

Several of members of the YP Committee had the opportunity recently to attend (and judge!) an econ class presentation through Babson College economics professor Jason Wong (and fellow YP committee member) as his students presented impressive solutions to their sustainability project challenges following a whirlwind 10-day study trip to Germany. You can read about the trip on their blog.
