West Coast Region Drivers Earn Cash at the National Auto Sport Association Awards Banquet

The Northern California NASA banquet took place at Infineon Raceway this past weekend. Hundreds of drivers were on hand to be recognized for their 2011 achievements. West Coast FCC racers were awarded cash in addition to their hard earned trophies.

Star Race Cars, the manufacturer of the Pro Formula Mazda and promoter of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, presented cash awards to the top 5 drivers in the Pro FM class. Moses Smith Racing, the manufacturer of the very popular Formula Mazda, presented cash awards to the top 10 drivers in the FM class.

The FCC presented by Goodyear Mechanic of the Year Award was presented to Ryan Ruth. Ruth served as mechanic and engineer on Peter Workum's car in 2012. Workum won the FM championship in his rookie year, and his car ran flawlessly all season.

Zach Veach, and Dutch Shultz were awarded their trophies for winning the 2011-12 FCC presented by Goodyear Winter Series Championships.

"We are always looking for opportunities to provide added value to our racers, noted Series Official Ben Hettema. This season in addition to these cash awards we were able to provide GoPro Cameras, Red Line Oil gift certificates, free Goodyear racing tires, custom series jackets by Adidas, free test days at Infineon Raceway, custom Red Line Oil racing suits to the champions, and Muscle Milk products at select races.

"Overall we have been able to generate tens of thousands of dollars in benefits to the competitors. We really appreciate all of our series partners, and everyone who supports the FCC," added Hettema. "It's great that we can give something back to the racers who invest so much into the sport." For 2012 Mazdaspeed has already announced a cash contingency program for series racers, and additional 2012 contingency programs are being put in to place. More details are expected in an upcoming press release.

The first race of the 2012 West Coast Region season will take place at Infineon Raceway on March 10th.

The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear visited beautiful Southern California to finish out this year's five race Winter Series. Twenty six drivers participated in the series this winter.

The series held five races over two weekends. The first weekend was a double header at Infineon Raceway. At the final tally Andretti Autosport driver Zach Veach won the Winter Series championship in the Pro Formula Mazda class, and�Dutch�Schultz won in the FM class. Veach is signed up to compete in the 2012 Star Mazda Championship with Andretti. �Dutch Shultz has a history of racing his Formula Mazda in the CalClub Region, and with the Vintage Auto Racing Association in Southern California. Shultz also secured the FM class Winter championship last season.

The FCC Winter Series has historically been a great place for drivers and teams to get started as they gear up for the upcoming racing season. In the past many teams including Andretti Autosport, Team GDT, Linares Racing, World Speed Motorsports, Richie Hearn Racing, Phenom Racing Group, John Walko Racing, and Team Apex have participated.

The drivers and teams are now gearing up for race one of the 2012 FCC presented by Goodyear West Coast Region championships which takes place on March 10th at Infineon Raceway.
