October 2024 Newsletter

President's Message

I’m not sure how it is October already but here we are!

As some of you may know, I have been facilitating the Spokes Development Director’s roundtable and I also attend a DevOps Speakeasy facilitated by Fundraise Up monthly.  What these groups are helping me to see is that all nonprofit organizations share many of the same challenges and that it is so helpful to connect in small groups, share ideas, lessons learned, and challenges in a safe and confidential environment.

This is one of the many reasons I love our local AFP workshops and mixers.  It is great to at least once a month be with “your people.”

I hope you feel the same way.  We have another great program lined up for you this month and National Philanthropy Day on November 14th is not to be missed.  Where else can you be at a beautiful venue, have a delicious meal, see your donors, honor philanthropists and hear from a, soon to be announced, keynote speaker who works with nonprofits throughout the state of California? Just sayin.’

See you soon.

Loren

For our nonprofit friends with small operating budgets under $2 million with less than 2 full time fundraising staff, you may want to consider a Small Nonprofit AFP membership. It’s only $125 plus a $60 chapter dues and is transferable if your development professional leaves, as opposed to the Individual Professional membership, which is $290 plus $45 in chapter dues.

Recap of Our September Program

Movie Night: Uncharitable Screening

Wow! What an incredible evening we shared at the Palm Theatre as we gathered to watch the inspiring movie 'Uncharitable.' This event brought together an amazing mix of fundraisers, community members, dedicated donors, and board members, all under one roof. The atmosphere was electric, buzzing with a philanthropic energy and collaborative spirit that is truly rare and special.

'Uncharitable' offered more than just entertainment; it was a profound experience that left us all feeling motivated and validated in our efforts. Its insightful narrative struck a chord with many attendees, sparking meaningful conversations and reflections on our roles in the philanthropic sector. It was a night that reaffirmed our commitments and reignited our passions for making a difference.

For those who were not able to join us, we highly encourage you to find a way to watch this transformative film. Sharing this movie with your team could open new avenues for discussion and innovation. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be inspired and to inspire others. Let's keep the conversation going and the spirit of collaboration alive!
