Due to a recent reduction in library funding from Stafford County, visitors to the Howell and Porter branches may notice upcoming service changes, including longer wait times at service desks, fewer notary appointments, and scaled-back classes and community events. More details can be found here.

Catch the next Music on the Steps concerts, held every Monday evening through the end of August at Fredericksburg. On 7/13, Angela Easterling & Brandon Turner share original stories-in-songs for a performance that rocks with refreshing, homespun tunes. On 7/20, the Harry Wilson Quartet returns to the Steps, bringing a high-energy blend of traditional jazz, R&B, and Latin influences.
Teen Game Nights--featuring games -and- crafts--are gatherings that happen monthly at Fredericksburg, Montross, Porter, and Salem Church branches. No need to sign up; just drop by!
Did you know the Library has an AV booth for people to use at no charge? Well-equipped for music or spoken-word recording, the AV booth at IdeaSpace is a tremendous resource. Make an appointment to learn to use it (a process called badging), and get started putting together your own recordings.
Children in grades K-6 can explore Discovery Tables at any Library location. These self-guided activity stations can be enjoyed through August 15. Tables change locations, keeping the fun fresh throughout the season.
Looking for a summery read? Sand & Sun Beach Reads for adults bring stories of warmth and breezy waters without the sandflies and need for sunscreen. Children can drift off to sleep after a busy morning playing in the sunshine with picture books featuring Summer Fun.
Teens (or adults!) who have had it with the blistering heat can check out Wintry Reads for Hot Days for gripping stories in frozen settings.
Mend--don't spend! Come to Fredericksburg Branch on Saturday afternoon, 7/18, for the Repair Café. If you have items in need of repair around your home--such as lamps, electronics, bikes, and clothes--bring them by for help from volunteer repair coaches and experts. In partnership with the R-Board and the Clean & Green Commission, participants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
Are you a care provider, or do you know someone who is? Caring for a loved one with dementia is a very demanding journey. Get support and advice from Bay Health Solutions. They will discuss the GUIDE Model for caregiving on Tuesday, 7/21, at Montross, and on Thursday, 8/27, at Cooper. The Library hosts other caregiver support gatherings, as well, such as Memory Café and Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group.
