Howdy Highland Park!

Local city elections are just about one week away! Local politics are where the truly meaningful issues happen that affect us on a local level. Personally, I never understood why we make such a big deal out of the Presidential elections, but then allow anything and everything to sneak by us on the city level. There are some important issues at stake this election cycle, like housing, homelessness, development, and most importantly, we have an opportunity to select our city councilman in the council district 1 section of our neighborhood.

Highland Park actually straddles two council districts, CD1 and CD14. If you are in CD1, you have an opportunity to give Gil Cedillo, our current councilman a thumbs up by reelecting him, or, choose a new council member from the list of three other candidates running. If you want to hear the candidates on the issues you care about, read on to see where you can watch a recording of our recent Facebook Live Candidate forum, as well as a Live Stream recording of recent live forums in the area.

So, we are pretty much devoting this email to the elections and getting out the vote in Highland Park. If you have any questions about the elections, need to know where to vote, or anything else, you can find information on the LA City elections webpage.

I have always said that an engaged community is an empowered community. We look forward to seeing a fully engaged Highland Park on March 7th! See you out at the polls and around the neighborhood!

Peace,
Harvey Slater
Your HHPNC President
