Things are a little quiet this week with neighborhood council board and committee meetings, but there is a lot going on around the community, and a couple important events that you might not want to miss out on.

Here's How to Ride Metro Bikes for Free for the Entire Month of May
Monthly passes typically cost $20, BUT because it is (apparently?) “Bike Month,” Metro is offering them for free. Here’s how to get one:  Sign up online and use the promo code BIKEMONTH17 at checkout.

You can choose to have a new bike share TAP card mailed to you, or you can add it to a Metro TAP card you already have.   Read More  
Lummis Day - Viva Poetry Events
The Lummis Day Viva Poetry program includes four poetry workshops held in Northeast Los Angeles led by four prominent poet in the weeks leading up to the June fes0val. These offerings will provide guidance and feedback for community members from experienced and acclaimed poets.  Read more

Save the Date!  LAFD Fire Service Day 2017 - Citywide Open House
SATURDAY, MAY 13, 2017

On Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM all Neighborhood Fire Stations in the City of Los Angeles will be expecting your visit during our annual open firehouse celebration.

Along with personal tours of Neighborhood Fire Stations, special displays are planned at locations across the City. Final preparations are also underway for pancake breakfast events at select fire stations. Those sites will be announced here soon!  Read More

  City of Los Angeles QuakeSmart Workshop - Thursday, May 18, 2017

Did you know that 40% of small businesses and organizations never reopen following a disaster?

This Workshop will provide an overview of the QuakeSmart Community Resilience Program for Businesses and Organizations. Participants will be able to review and implement business continuity planning and mitigation project plans through the simple, step-by-step planning tools in the QuakeSmart Program.  The workshop is completely FREE, but registration is required and space is limited.  VIEW DETAILS.

ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF LA PARKS

Join Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, The Trust for Public Land, and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks as they share original research quantifying the economic benefits of the city's parks.
