Virtual Event

Join us October 1st at 11am EST for our 2022 Student Research Competition!

In 2017, The Pam And Rolando Del Maestro Family Undergraduate Student Research Competition Awards – named for Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s co-founders – were established to promote scientific innovation among Canadian undergraduate students.

This  competition is an opportunity for students to showcase their work to other scientists, researchers, and professionals attending the Virtual Brain Tumour Research Symposium. It also provides students an opportunity to create a research proposal, practice presentation skills and receive constructive feedback. Presentations will be relevant to the brain tumour research community.

Project Title: “Identifying transcriptional drivers of glioblastoma heterogeneity”

Update: Two distinct mouse models of glioblastoma, CT2A and GL261, were engrafted into mouse brains and subsequently profiled using single-cell transcriptomics to obtain high-resolution data characterizing the tumor and surrounding microenvironment. Using this approach, we found that the mouse tumors recapitulated similar degrees of diversity as seen in patient tumors, thereby demonstrating the validity of these mouse models.

Project Title: “A Randomized Controlled Trial to Assess the Efficacy of Expert Benchmark Feedback Systems in Simulated Brain Tumour Resection Training”

Update: The randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of expert benchmark feedback

systems in simulated brain tumor resection training has been completed. Participants in all

feedback groups significantly improved performance compared to baseline performance. Visual

and visuospatial feedback protocols resulted in better performance improvement.
