Happy Holidays from Finlandia Foundation National!

Independence Day is Celebrated Nationwide

It was lovely to see all of the Finnish Independence Day celebrations taking place throughout the country.

Pictured above is our Executive Director Thomas Flanagan at the Finnish Center Association in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Also pictured above are the celebrations at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock, Michigan, along with the opening night of the Friends of Finland art exhibit at the Finlandia Art Gallery. Lastly, the Finnish Brotherhood Hall in Berkeley hosted a celebration as well, featuring keynote speaker Mårten Mickos, Honorary Consul of Finland in San Francisco, and the singing of the Pellava Choir from the Finlandia Foundation Bay Area Chapter.

Mark your calendar for our January 16th Finnposium!

Join us for an inspiring talk by artist Kasey Koski moderated by Phillis Fredendall, exploring the creative journey behind a site-specific sculpture installation at Keweenaw National Historical Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Rooted in personal connection to the region, the project celebrates the stories of immigrant workers and the park’s heritage.

In collaboration with the Keweenaw National History Park, Kasey will share insights into the design process, from initial sketches and collaboration with local manufacturers to the installation of four striking core-ten steel sculptures.

Celebrate the intersection of art, history, and community in this fascinating behind-the-scenes presentation!
