Although the calendar year is winding down, Finlandia Foundation and many chapters are heading into a busy season of activities and programs.
These include online events as well as a return to in-person gatherings in observance of Finland's December 6 independence day, Christmas parties for the children, holiday bazaars and more.
I would like to express appreciation for the commitment of so many who dedicate their time, talent and financial support to keeping alive these traditions and interest in the history and culture of Finnish America and Finland today.

FFN Recognizes The Finnish American Reporter,

At the FFN board meeting in the Detroit area October 16, President Anne-Mari Paster presented the Finlandia Foundation Award of Excellence to The Finnish American Reporter, now celebrating its 35th year of publication. Editor David Maki (above, left), accepted the award for the monthly journal, which chronicles life and items of interest to Finnish America. It is published by Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan.
"We must recognize how fortunate we are to have a quality, monthly heritage newspaper dedicated to the common interests of Finnish America and Finland, and what an achievement it is to be able to celebrate its longevity---especially now, when print publications are facing challenges to survive,” says Anne-Mari.
Additionally, FFN recognized James "Jim" Kurtti (above, right) for his years of service and dedication to Finnish America. Jim retired earlier this year from his position as director of the Finnish American Heritage Center at Finlandia University. He will continue to be involved with the community as Honorary Consul for Finland in the Upper Peninsula, and with the Finnish Theme Committee of Hancock, Finlandia Foundation Copper Country Chapter.

You Can Still Catch ICE Online!

Earlier this month, Finlandia Foundation was pleased to premiere two exclusive interviews about the popular novel Ice, with author Ulla-Lena Lundberg, and with Jaakko Kuusisto, composer of the opera based on the book.
The story, about a young pastor and his family in Finland’s rugged outer archipelago, was awarded the 2012 Finlandia Prize for literature. It was adapted by the Finnish National Opera and premiered on stage in 2019. FFN is privileged to offer online viewing of the opera to FFN members only, from November 23-29.

NOVEMBER 30 is
The 10th annual Giving Tuesday happens on November 30, 2021.
The event was launched in 2012 as "a day that encourages people to do good."
Giving Tuesday was scheduled after the traditional post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" frenzy as a way to help non-profit groups, as well as individuals.
Please consider a Giving Tuesday gift to FFN. Your contribution is eligible for tax deduction and is doubled by a grant from the Paloheimo Foundation.

Eeppi Ursin is 2022
Performer of the Year
Finlandia Foundation National has selected award-winning jazz vocalist Eeppi Ursin as its Performer of the Year for 2022.
Originally from Finland, and now based in New York, the singer-songwriter is a versatile artist who has appeared as a soloist and with many types of groups, from A Cappella ensembles to symphony orchestras. Eeppi offers pop, jazz, dance---even children’s music, such as Muuminlauluja (Moomin Voices)---in her programs.
She has 40 recordings, of which five are platinum or gold albums, and last month released her fourth solo album, Speechless.
Eeppi will be available to perform at FFN chapters in person and online from January through December 2022.
