For five weeks this summer, sculptor, art teacher and JASMYN volunteer, Jim Smith, worked with eight JASMYN young
people to create three-dimensional pieces to help bring a youth voice to the amazing "J2" building. Each piece tells a personal story about the past and about the present for each artist. For half of the young artists participating, it was their first ever artmaking experience.
"JASMYN makes me stronger because I feel safe in the environment, safe around my peers, and accepted for being myself," says Amber, 18. Each night was spent sharing a meal, receiving instruction from Jim and exploring ways to make each assemblage tell a great story.
The art will be permanently installed throughout the J2 house. T
he community will be invited to help celebrate the youth and their work at a Community Open House & Young Artist Reception, 923 & 929 Peninsular Place on September 16th, 4 to 6 PM.
We need your help to make this a special event for the proud artists. Can you chip in to help make this event memorable? From refreshments and entertainment to photo keepsakes, you can help make it happen. We also want to make sure that every young artist is inspired to keep creating.
Support them now
and mark your calendars for September!

White House Releases National HIV/AIDS Strategy 2020 - Towards an AIDS-Free Generation #HIV2020 |
|
To get to an AIDS-free generation, the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) has been updated with aggressive goals and measures through the year 2020.
The strategy focuses on right people, right places, and right practices to achieve this vision:
"The United States will become a place where new HIV infections are rare, and when they do occur, every person, regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic circumstance will have unfettered access to high quality, life-extending care, free from stigma and discrimination."
Priority is given to strategies that specifically support youth aged 13 to 24 years, transgender women, and young Black gay and bisexual men. And especially in the South, which accounts for more than half of all HIV diagnoses in the U.S.!
JASMYN is already engaged in many of the practices recommended, such as widespread HIV testing and linkage to care, broad support for people living with HIV, including help remaining in care and adhering to medications to reach viral suppression. Over the next few months, we'll be sharing more about how Jacksonville can help support an AIDS-free generation right here!
