Are you ready for some green-filled fun? Saint Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and while Olympia, Washington may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of Saint Patrick's Day celebrations, there are still plenty of exciting ways to celebrate the luck of the Irish! Here are our top 5 picks:
Pub Crawl: Grab your friends and start your Saint Patrick's Day festivities with a pub crawl! Olympia has several breweries and restaurants that are perfect for the occasion. Begin your adventure at Cascadia Grill for some World-Famous Corned Beef and Cabbage (serving from noon until they sell out!) and live music, then head over to Well 80 Brewhouse, The Brotherhood Lounge and end the evening at Three Magnets Brewing Co. where you'll be ready for some Self Care Non-Al Beer! Raise a glass and cheers to the luck of the Irish!
Irish Food at the Olympia Farmers Market: On Saturday, head over to the Olympia Farmers Market for some delicious Irish soda bread and Irish-themed desserts. Take in the sights and smells of the market while enjoying a taste of Ireland.
Leprechaun-Themed Activities: The Hands On Children's Museum is celebrating Saint Patrick's Day with Leprechaun-themed activities now through March 17. Kids can make their own Leprechaun Chia Pets and try to outsmart and catch a Leprechaun by creating their own Leprechaun trap! It's a fun and festive way to celebrate with the whole family.
Cryptatropa Bar: If you're looking for an unforgettable Saint Patrick's Day party, head to the Cryptatropa Bar in downtown Olympia. Nationally renowned folk band Countercurrent, along with some special guests, will keep the jigs, reels, and singalongs coming all evening with their special blend of Irish traditional music and high-energy psychedelic dance tunes. It's sure to be a night you won't soon forget!
Irish Film Screening: For a more low-key celebration, catch a screening of the Irish film "The Quiet Girl" at the Olympia Film Society. Nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2023 Academy Awards, the film follows the story of a young girl struggling to find her place in rural Ireland in the 1980s. It's a poignant and powerful film that's sure to leave an impression.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, Saint Patrick's Day is the perfect opportunity to let loose and have some fun. So, don't forget to wear your green and have a shamrockin' good time!

Celebrate Women's History Month at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library or Browsers Bookshop
|
|
Happy Women's History Month, Olympia! Let's take this month to celebrate the amazing accomplishments and contributions that women have made throughout history. From Susan B. Anthony to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, women have been breaking barriers and fighting for equality for centuries.
We are fortunate to live in a city that values diversity and inclusivity, and we should take this opportunity to honor the women who have helped make our community what it is today. So whether it's attending a women's history event, supporting women-owned businesses, reading a story written by a woman or simply reflecting on the powerful women in your own life, let's use this month to celebrate and uplift the incredible women who have made a difference in our world.
The National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA), which spearheaded the movement for March being declared National Women’s History Month, has announced the women’s history theme for 2023, “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”
Throughout 2023, the NWHA will encourage recognition of women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, and more. This timely theme honors women in every community who have devoted their lives and talents to producing art, pursuing truth, and reflecting the human condition decade after decade.

Exciting news! Thurston County is now accepting applications for the new Commercial Property Clean Energy & Resiliency Program!
|
|
Eligible projects include HVAC and lighting upgrades, solar panels, efficient appliances, lead pipe replacement, seismic retrofits, fire suppression systems, and more.
|
|
Commercial Property Clean Energy & Resiliency (C-PACER) Program is a voluntary loan program that allows eligible commercial property owners in Thurston County to obtain long-term financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, water efficiency, and building resiliency improvements. The best part? C-PACER loans run with the property, not the owner, and are transferrable upon the sale of the property.
This program supports the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan, a regional effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and 85% by 2050. Buildings and the energy sector account for over half of countywide emissions, so this program is essential to achieving our goals.
Eligible projects include HVAC and lighting upgrades, solar panels, efficient appliances, lead pipe replacement, seismic retrofits, fire suppression systems, and more. Properties must be located within Thurston County and be privately owned commercial, industrial, agricultural, or multifamily residential properties with five or more dwelling units.
The C-PACER program fee covers the program implementation and operation cost, and the Auditor's Office fee covers the recording of Closing Documents on the property title. The Thurston County Board of Commissioners authorized this program in July 2022, so take advantage of this fantastic opportunity! Apply now!
For more information on the C-PACER program, visit Thurston County's website.
