West Virginia Central FCU just held our 49th annual meeting on March 3rd. We are now looking forward to not only celebrating our 50th anniversary next year but to continuing to grow and serving our members for many years to come.
At our 49th annual meeting, we honored Jose' Alonzo who recently passed away. Jose' founded WV Central as well as served as one of our charter members. When Central was first formed it was created in part to serve volunteers at federal credit unions in the state of WV. At that time, volunteers could not borrow from their own credit union so a solution was needed. Jose' approached the state legislature to obtain a unique field of membership and was successful in acquiring one. We owe a great debt to Jose' as without his efforts our credit union might not exist today. We were also able to thank Rosemary Alonzo, who was in attendance, for her superior service as our first credit union manager. I am especially appreciative of the Alonzo's as they helped me to get my start in the credit union movement.
While we no longer have the field of membership from 49 years ago, we remain determined to fulfill our credit union philosophy and mission!
By the time that you read this newsletter, we will be fully marketing our new charter and field of membership that includes Wood, Pleasants, Ritchie, Wirt and Jackson Counties in WV and Washington County in Ohio.
Members will be able to open accounts electronically and will also have access to Kasasa Cash and Cash Back accounts that will provide superior rewards over traditional checking accounts. In the later part of the second quarter, members will be able to fully apply for loans electronically in a safe and easy method.
We are anticipating exciting new products and programs going forward. We encourage all members to fully use the world class services that are being provided.
At WV Central Federal Credit Union - A new adventure awaits!
