News plus COSA meets Jan 9

James Shultis, Co-Director of Translate Gender, Inc., will provide an overview of how to provide care through a trauma-informed lens while being sensitive to the intersectionality of multiple identities including race, gender, and age to best serve the trans population. Translate Gender responds to needs in the community through support groups, education and advocacy. They offer gender-affirming therapy and support for families including care givers, guardians with reach beyond the nuclear family. They do a considerable amount of work with youth between the ages of 3-18. This includes a youth leadership team, youth programs for trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive youth, as well as community-based events. Volunteer for the PIT Count

Are you interested in volunteering with the 2024 Point in Time (PIT) Count? The January 2024 PIT Count of persons experiencing homelessness in Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties will take place on Jan 31 and last until Feb 7. Training will be provided and you can be paired with an experienced Count partner. Check out the survey before Jan 10th.

Jeff Harness marks 34 years!

In honor of his 34 years of service to Cooley Dickinson, Jeff Harness is looking to raise $34,000 in support of a program that he assisted in bringing to Cooley Dickinson: New Beginnings. This program works to increase education and build support for pregnant and postpartum people in recovery. All the best to Jeff as he begins a new adventure. We'll miss you!

Join private attorneys, legal aid lawyers, and law students to knock on legislators’ doors and advocate for civil legal aid funding.

Property Tax for Nonprofits?

A bill being considered on Beacon Hill would require property tax payments to cities and towns across Massachusetts from some nonprofits. The bill would give communities across the state the power to require payments from larger nonprofit organizations that don't currently pay property taxes on their buildings or land.
