Builders Testimonials
"As a small to mid-size builder in a rura l market, we were   n't sure this would provide value for us. Our first quarterly rebate covered both our annual dues to our local home builders association and the staff time to complete the simple rebate request form. Three quarters of bonus rebates! Definitely a benefit worthy of membership! Gregg Moneyhun, Shelter Alternatives, Inc. (VA)

"The HBAV Rebate Program offers a great incentive for home builders in Virginia. We were very excited to receive over $2,300 dollars in rebates. There are a variety of companies and quality products involved with the program, with more being added.
every quarter. The submittal process is easy and painless, with minimal forms required. We look forward to receiving more rebates in the future." Caskey Hunt, Southern Development Homes (VA) "

Greetings ABA Family!
Summer is finally here, which means building season is in full swing and schedules are busier than ever.  It is also the perfect time of year to grab a cold one and catch up on the latest industry trends and legislative news and network with fellow members.  H&H is kicking off our summer calendar with a Tailgate Party at Wade Stadium on Thursday, June 21st.  The burgers and brats will be hot at 5:00 pm with the game following at 6:30. This is a family friendly event, so bring the kids, grab your glove and come on down!

In July we will have the opportunity to check out Economy Garages when they host the Member's Night Out on July 19th.  I'm looking forward to meeting the gang and learning more about how they set themselves apart from their competition.

The Association has two events slated for August
Maureen's on the 16th and the Clay Shoot on the 23rd

Nobody hosts a better party than Maureen!  Come visit their showroom for the latest in kitchen and bath trends, sample some wine and meet her amazing team as they host August Members Night Out

The Clay Shoot will be held on August 23rd at the Old Vermilion Trail. This event will challenge even the best shooters and promises to be fun for all.  Funds raised will go to the Educational Outreach Fund.  The Educational Outreach Fund is used to support our scholarship program, community outreach and workforce development.

Carving out time to attend these events can be difficult, but you only get out of the association what you put into it.  So, make the time!  I promise you that by attending these events, you will become more educated on what is going on industry wide, what our legislators are doing and you will form lasting relationships.
Happy Summer y'all.  Hope to see you at the next event!

Lumber Tariffs, Labor Issues Constrain the Industry
Lumber price concerns have surpassed labor issues as the top supply-side headwind constraining home construction growth. Nonetheless, along with the tight availability of loans and land, the growing cost and scarcity of labor continues to be a significant challenge for builders, developers and remodelers.

These labor-related issues mirror those of the overall jobs market. In May, the economy created 223,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell to 3.8% - the lowest level in 18 years. This pace of job creation,
combined with a 2.7% year-over-year growth in earnings, are net positives for housing demand. In an
effort to meet that demand, residential construction added 10,300 jobs in May - increasing the total of new
jobs over the last 12 months to 132,000.

Still, the level of residential construction job creation must increase to more effectively address growing demand. In April, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated 232,000 open positions in the overall construction industry, which is near the post-Great Recession high mark of 255,000 set last summer.
The good news is that tax and regulatory reform are increasing worker productivity and boosting economic growth. Look for a strong second quarter estimate for GDP growth, even as producer prices continue to rise.
