Since February, the Arrowhead Builders Association has hosted the weekly broadcast of speaking of Homes on WDSM Radio (710 AM/96.1 FM or podcasts online) The show is called Speaking of Homes.  Erick Filby of Marvin Windows and myself, Chelle Eliason, ABA Executive Officer host the show.

Each week, the topic revolves around happenings in the housing industry.  We have special guests come in to discuss their projects, new products or trends, shared ideas and experiences and really showcase their business.  And it's FREE to join us!

Don't Miss August Deals on Builders' Show Registration 
The 2018 NAHB International Builders' Show ®  returns to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 9-11. IBS will again co-locate with the National Kitchen & Bath Association's Kitchen & Bath Industry Show® for the fifth annual Design & Construction Week®. IBS registrants can take advantage of great   August-only registration discounts .
 
EPA Formally Withdraws Post-Construction Stormwater Rule
The Environmental Protection Agency announced recently that it has abandoned the effort to require all developers to install post-construction stormwater management devices on construction sites.
 
Almost 80,000 Starts Last Year Were Tear-Downs 
NAHB economists estimate that about 10.2% of single-family starts in 2016 - roughly 79,300 homes - were tear-downs. That is significantly higher than the 55,200 tear-downs that NAHB reported in 2015, when they accounted for about 7.7% of single-family production.
 
DHS to Allow 15,000 Additional H-2B Guest Worker Visas
The Department of Homeland Security announced in July that it will allow an additional 15,000 H-2B temporary worker visas  to be issued during this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. The H-2B program allows employers to hire temporary foreign workers for seasonal, non-agricultural positions. In past years, roughly half of the visas have gone to landscaping businesses.

Applications are now being accepted for 2018 NAHB committee and council board of trustees appointments. NAHB strongly encourages all those who may be interested to submit an application
. Applications must be submitted online before Sept. 22.

LANDS Legal Action Conference to Be Held Oct. 19-20 at NAHB
NAHB members with an interest in land-use law should make plans to attend the 2017 LANDS Housing Law Continuing Legal Education & Roundtable. The  legal education conference   takes place Oct. 19-20 at NAHB's Washington, D.C., headquarters.
