We encourage you to use the comprehensive 2026 Content Calendar for Tobacco Prevention and Treatment Programs to plan ahead and consider incorporating messaging themes for each month.

MARCH

Sleep Awareness Month / Sleep Awareness Week (March 8 - 14)

National Sleep Awareness Month is a great time to discuss sleep hygiene habits. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule, limiting screen time before bed, and developing a relaxing bedtime routine are comforting ways to set the stage for sound slumber. One habit that definitely does not support healthy sleep is nicotine use.

This Letter to the Editor template includes research that examines just how disruptive nicotine use can be to a healthy sleep cycle.

Review the materials below to draw connections between awareness events and commercial tobacco work. Feel free to use them as you see fit – including, but not limited to, personal knowledge, professional development, or coalition discussions.

APRIL

FACT Month of Action

April kicks off with Take Down Tobacco Day (April 1), and FACT is continuing to elevate youth voices during a Month of Action. Throughout April, youth engagement groups across the state can get involved by conducting a nicotine product cleanup within their community. FACT will provide participating groups with an action kit of the materials needed for the cleanup (gloves, trash bags, etc), a short presentation on the impacts nicotine products have on the community, verbiage to send to media to invite them to the cleanup, guidance on disposal, and more.

To get started, choose a day to do the nicotine product cleanup with youth in your area, and fill out the event sign-up form. You can also take and share videos/photos from your event for a chance to win a pizza party! For more information, please review the event flyer or reach out to Zoe Hurdle.

Oral Health Month

April marks Oral Health Month, an ideal time to examine the effects commercial tobacco and nicotine products have on our teeth and gums. The growing popularity of nicotine pouches like Zyn is also raising concerns over increased disease risks. While research is underway to study the connection between nicotine pouch use and oral cancer, early evidence shows an association between pouch use and mucosal irritation, lesions and periodontal inflammation.

Use this news release template and the resources below to draw attention to the oral health impacts of nicotine pouches, as well as other dangers they pose to young people.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day is April 22, 2026, and it’s a good time to raise awareness around the environmental harms of vaping, smoking, and using nicotine pouches. Here is a sample LTE about vape and nicotine pouch disposal, as well as a template news release that you might choose to customize for your community. Consider using these social media ideas for Earth Day or see the above Month of Action information from FACT to coordinate a nicotine products clean-up date in your area.

Highlighted Resource

The Northwest Wisconsin Lung Health Alliance recently worked with a local artist to update an infographic that addresses current issues surrounding vapes, nicotine pouches, and cigarette butt waste. Please feel free to use this resource for your Earth Day activities or other efforts to address the environmental impacts of nicotine products.

Visit the Vape Disposal Resource Folder to access toolkits, community of practice resources, media templates, and other samples to guide you through the process and how to get started in your area.

Save the Date

This year’s No Menthol Sunday is scheduled for May 17, 2026. The event is led nationally by the Center for Black Health and Equity and locally by the Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network (WAATPN). It’s a time for communities to raise awareness about the health impacts of menthol and other tobacco products and offer support to those who want to quit.

Stay tuned for updated materials and opportunities to get involved and/or host events in your community.
